Tenant spotlight VOLCOM The atmosphere, well, it can seem like a party. Besides all the great retail and eating options — not to mention a soon-to-be movie theater — Queens’ MarketPlace has created an crowd friendly environment by giving guests options for just about everything, including concerts. “Our time at Queens’ MarketPlace has been great,” said Kekoa Kapololu, Big Island manager of Volcom, which specializes in its modern lifestyle brand that embodies the creative spirit of youth culture. “The mall has created unique events that draw many customers. We also share the mall QUEENS’ MARKETPLACE | CELEBRATING 10 YEARS with many great tenants.” Some of the major highlights included when they hosted DripDry, a band from Hilo, for the 4-year-old store’s grand opening as well for its one-year anniversary. But even when there isn’t a celebration going on, the store sends out Stoneman to go mix with guests milling around the retail center. The costumed Volcom stone likes to engage visitors and locals alike. “They strive to get the best stores and brands in the mall to attract the people,” Kapololu said of the retail fixture that always draws crowds. “The mall is also very well maintained, which makes it inviting. In addition, they consistently host events to keep the buzz around the mall going.” The mix in clientele among patrons is one of the biggest advantages of being a tenant, he added, as the resort draws them in from near and far. “The mall caters to the tourist first since we are at a resort shopping center and accommodates the local residents as well with great shopping options, great food and beverage outlets and has events, festivals and activities,” he said, adding the offerings are only going to get better around the store. “Now with the movie theater opening, we feel that it will add a different dimension to this already great shopping complex.” THE PRESENT 12 Congratulations Queens’ Marketplace on your 10 year Anniversary!
