WEST HAWAII TODAY | BIG ISLAND ENTERTAINMENT SCENE FRIDAY, JUNE 16, 2017 | 3 Kona Coffee Cultural Festival selects signature art Linda Huff ’s work to be showcased on official festival poster, retail merchandise The Kona Coffee Cultural Festival has selected a piece by freelance graphic designer Linda Huff for its 2017 signature art. Huff ’s winning entry will be showcased on the official poster of the 47th annual Kona Coffee Cultural Festival set for Nov. 3 through 12. As a freelance graphic designer, Huff loves all things “Hawaiian.” Her affection for Hawaii began when she first visited as a girl with her parents. Since, she has become particularly attached to the Big Island for its unbridled beauty. Currently, she runs a logo design business and has developed a personal illustrative technique using free-style brushed strokes of black and splashes of brilliant color combined graphically on the computer. The art piece created for the festival is a culmination of all her loves of the Big Island: Kona coffee, ukulele, surfing, whales, sunsets, hibiscus, historical churches, and most importantly — aloha. “I feel truly blessed to have been chosen. This is my favorite event and I hope everyone will enjoy my expression of love for the festival and the people of Hawaii,” said Huff. “I look forward to sipping my favorite coffee while strolling and enjoying all the festivities at this year’s festival.” Starting Oct. 15, the official festival poster and retail merchandise will be available at Kona Coffee & Tea Co. in Kailua-Kona. It will also be available at various festival events during the Kona Coffee Cultural Festival. Each year, the festival hosts more than 40 events over 10 days that showcase nearly 200 years of Kona coffee heritage. There are fun activities for all ages and interests that celebrate the famous harvest and, of course, loads of opportunities to taste Kona coffee and experience its celebrated lifestyle. Signature event samplings include a lantern parade through Kailua Village, an art stroll through Holualoa Village, a Kona coffee-inspired recipe contest, Kona coffee farm tours, art exhibits and a cupping competition where a recognized panel of cupping judges scrutinize the harvest from farms throughout the Kona coffee belt. “Every year, the festival unites our community with innovative events that add fun, learning opportunities, arts, culture and great island entertainment,” said Valerie Corcoran, Kona Coffee Cultural Festival president . “We celebrate the harvest and honor the hard work and dedication of our farmers. They have endured for generations to help establish Kona coffee as a leading coffee of the world.” Info: www. konacoffeefest.com. ■ WEST HAWAII TODAY Huff
