ONO-LICIOUS | DECEMBER 9, 2016 7 ROYAL THAI CAFE: Location offers opportunity for a movie-and-dinner night Showcasing locally sourced ingredients plus top-of-the-line noodles imported from Thailand, the menu at Royal Thai Café features favorites like Phad Thai noodles, Panang Curry, Green Papaya Salad (Som Tam), and Crispy Duck served with choice of sauce — the most popular being the Royal Thai Spicy Sauce. Everything is made to order. Desserts are all homemade. Favorites include Sweet Sticky Rice with Mango; Tapioca Pudding made with sweet Hawaiian potato; Deep-Fried Banana; and Deep- Fried Ice Cream. The luscious Coconut Ice Cream comes from Tropical Dreams on the Big Island. Yam makes all his sauces in house, such as the delicious peanut and plum sauces, as well as all spicy sauces. He also cooks up special dishes, like steamed opakapaka served head to tail. The impressive wine list features selections from Italy, France, California and Washington. Most of the wines by the glass are priced at $7. “Our wines pair well with Thai food, especially the dry Riesling that has a bit of sweetness to it,” says Yam. “We don’t mark up our wines drastically like other restaurants do.” Working alongside his mother and father, Yam says he strives to make customers feel like part of the family. Good service is key to a great dining experience. “My dad helps in the front of the restaurant, greeting and seating the guests,” said Yam. “His big smile is the first thing our customers see when they walk in the door. Our restaurant is a warm and welcoming place. Many of our customers are like family to us.” Yam adds that the convenient location near the movie theater attracts patrons who want to enjoy a night out on the town. “Keauhou is a great location for us,” he said. “There is plenty of parking, and we are really convenient for families to enjoy a movie-and-dinner night.” CONTINUED FROM PAGE 1 TOP: With a convenient location at Keauhou Shopping Center, enjoying a movie and a dinner at Royal Thai Café is easy.
