Honokaa Bongo Bens “I am going to preface my review by saying I am a very picky and highly critical eater. I am accustomed to eating fresh, raw fish. If the fish has the least odor, I send it back. I will rarely eat cooked fish because I think it tastes fishy. WELL, I saw that this place had poke on the menu and was disappointed when told that they didn’t have any the night. The waitress recommended the mahi. I asked “fresh frozen”? She firmly said, “No”, caught today”. She seemed to be very honest so I trusted her and ordered the mahi mahi fish tacos without cheese or tartar sauce. I also asked her to swap the papaya salsa for tomato salsa. She was very accommodating. I also ordered iced tea that was AMAZING, even without sweetener!!! The fish tacos came quickly and had no smell and were delicious!! Two large pieces of fresh fish for $12. The restaurant has a great view of the bay and an excellent waitress (I was there on a Friday night at about 930 pm.). It started to get crowded around that time. I would definitely go back and eat their fresh catch the next time I’m in the BiG Island! Well, having been to this particular Ruth’s Chris many times, I can happily say that you would be hard-pressed to find a better meal or service. And, their Happy hour is nothing short of superb. If you’ve eaten at a Ruth’s Chris, anywhere, you will not be disappointed. Close your eyes and you could be at any of them. The prime sliders and stuffed mushrooms are beyond good. The steaks are cooked to perfection as are the sides. If you get there before 6pm, the price fixe is $49.99. How can you beat that. And it has a wonderful second floor ocean front location too. I had the chicken marsala with extra grilled veggies instead of mashed potatoes and there was no up charge. The food was pipping hot to the last bite and scrumptious. We went back the next night for dinner again it was that good. I thought the whole menu was very reasonably priced for such well-prepared cuisine. And the service we had both nights was knowledgeable, enthusiastic and timely but not rushed.
