8 ONO-LICIOUS | DECEMBER 9, 2016 Da Latest Scoop Kings’ Shops’ newest restaurant The Koa Table to open Dec. 19 In recent years, Chef Ippy Aiona has achieved much acclaim for his popular restaurant at the Kings’ Shops known as Three Fat Pigs. In just a few weeks, the Big Island native will mark the grand opening of his all-new restaurant, The Koa Table. Slated to open on December 19, The Koa Table will occupy the same lakeside location as Three Fat Pigs, but will showcase THE MORE YOU GIVE, THE MORE YOU RECEIVE THE MORE YOU GIVE, THE MORE YOU RECEIVE an entirely new concept and menu focused on family-style, local comfort food. The eclectic THE MORE YOU GIVE, THE MORE YOU RECEIVE THE MORE YOU GIVE, THE MORE YOU RECEIVE menu will feature offerings like oxtail stew, mochiko chicken, and chicken-papaya soup — all inspired by Chef Ippy’s culinary upbringing in Waimea. Both of his parents owned restaurants/cafes in Waimea, where Ippy cultivated his love of cooking before attending culinary school at Le Cordon Bleu, in San Francisco. “The Koa Table is a new direction for me,” said Chef Ippy, who was named one of the top “30 Under 30” chefs in the country by Forbes in 2012. “We’ve been here at Three Fat Pigs for four years, and now it’s time to switch things up. Even though Three Fat Pigs is doing great, I like to challenge myself and try new things. Because my parents owned restaurants here, my culinary influences are intertwined in the food scene on the Big Island. The new menu reflects our life and what we grew up eating.” Guests of The Koa Table will be treated to ohana-style cuisine that presents a new twist on traditional, local cooking. The new restaurant is a family affair, with members of Ippy’s family working alongside the star chef.
