Our ohana of hospitals and clinics in East Hawaii are in year two of
the “Go Malama” program to transform our hospitals from good
to great. Through this program, we are making great strides to
improve our patients’ experience through enhancing employee and physician
engagement.
Continuing on last year’s successes, we celebrated the second class of
three physicians who graduated from our Hawaii Island Family Medicine
Residency program. This spring, construction on our new Hawaii Island
Family Health Center was completed. We blessed the new clinic located right
inside our main entrance, just steps away from our Emergency Department.
Right around the corner is our new Cardiology Clinic, which opened at the
end of last year. These new clinics are strategically located on our main floor,
conveniently close to the Imaging and Laboratory departments. Future plans
include an outpatient pharmacy for improved medication compliance. These
are just a few of the major improvements going on at Hilo Medical Center.
I would also like to acknowledge the exceptional care provided at our
critical access hospitals in Honokaa and Ka‘u. These hospitals provide
crucial and essential care to patients close to home in their communities.
As an example of our commitment to expanding care, we welcomed Puna
Community Medical Center into our Ka‘u Hospital ohana of Rural Health
Clinics and to the East Hawaii Region of HHSC. All of our 1,300 employees
and physicians are honored to be an integral part of health care in our vibrant
East Hawaii community.
