As a relatively new, 10 year old, organization, WHCHC has done a remarkable job of providing health care to a growing number of people, which tops nearly 13,000 today. Phenomenal achievements, like this, can only be attributed to those people who sit at the top, but at West Hawaii Community Health Center, the accolades go to the whole team – the governance of the board of directors, the leadership of the CEO and management team, the generosity of foundations and donors, but most importantly to the commitment, expertise and sheer dedication of the medical, dental, behavioral health and administrative team of West Hawaii Community Health Center. Congratulations for a job well done! Working together with our island communities, West Hawaii Community Health Center is proud to recognize those who are helping to make a difference to the health and well being of those we serve. Those We Serve West Hawaii Community Health Center serves the uninsured, underinsured, low-income and individuals with Medicare, Medicaid, or private insurance. People without insurance are offered a sliding-fee scale, determined by income and the number of members in a household. No one is denied health care services because of income or a lack of insurance. Other barriers to accessing health care services are due to language diversity, cultural differences, geographic transportation challenges or a lack of health care providers in the areas in which they live. Reaching approximately 20% (12,642) of the residents of West Hawaii, WHCHC patient visits totaled 46,586 in 2014, an average of 3.68 visits per patient. This is in comparison to the fi rst year of service in 2005 when 905 patients and 2,200 patient visits were recorded. These incredible statistics reveal just how vital WHCHC is to the people living in West Hawaii. Approximately 70% of WHCHC patients have income levels below the federal poverty level and represent the cultural diversity of the community, including: Native Hawaiians (10%), Asians (6%), Hispanics (9%), Micronesians and other Pacifi c Islanders (9%), Mixed/Hapa (25%), and Caucasian (41%). It goes without saying that health care is paramount in any community, particularly in rural areas like West Hawaii. westhawaiichc.org Lauren Avery, Director of Development & Marketing Email: lavery@westhawaiichc.org (808) 331-6472 • Cell: (808) 371-2502 Kealakehe – Medical • (808) 355-5600 Kealakehe – Dental • (808) 355-5650
