WEST HAWAII COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER Caring for West Hawaii’s Ohana Since 2005 5 2009 Building healthy island communities since 2002 Keiki pediatric dental services begin 2013 Waikoloa office opens 2014 Kealakekua Family Health Center opens 2010 After 5 years of service, 7,669 patients served in 29,825 office visits annually 2015 WHCHC at Kealakehe opens in July 10th Year Anniversary Inaugural “Art is Healing: Sense of Place” event held in celebration of WHCHC’s 10th Year Anniversary The following year WHCHC received its Federally Qualifi ed Health Center (FQHC) accreditation, paving the way for a cost-effective approach to delivering health care to the underserved and uninsured. By the end of 2007, the fi rst expansion of the Kailua-Kona facility increased the number of exam rooms from three to seven to care for the 4,249 WHCHC patients who called West Hawaii Community Health Center their medical home. Consultation rooms were added to accommodate the new Behavioral Health program. In 2008 WHCHC opened a new health care facility in Kealakekua to provide medical and behavioral health services to children. A year later a pediatric dental program was established and offers the only two fulltime pediatric dentists on island. In late 2009 an adult emergency dental program was opened to bring much needed relief to adults suffering from dental decay. February 2013 brought a new facility, in Waikoloa, a remote northern community in West Hawaii,, and a new adult medical program to Kealakekua. However, within a year the demand for service overtook the small facility; causing WHCHC to open a separate Kealakekua family medical facility a short distance away. Most recently in July of 2015, West Hawaii Community Health Center opened its newest and biggest health care center, located in the Kealakehe ahupua’a, in north Kona. Phase 1 provides medical, dental and behavior health services to people of all ages and has been received with great applause. A comment by one of our new Kealakehe patients said it all, “I am overjoyed by this new medical building, so close to home and so beautiful. The staff and my doctor are kind and caring, and especially very helpful with my medical problems. Thank you, thank you.” Over the last ten years, in response to the signifi cant increase in demand for health care services, WHCHC established a new health care facility in a new location or expanded an existing facility – every two years! From humble beginning where 905 patients were served and 2,200 patient visits recorded, by the end of 2014, there were 12,642 patients and 46,586 patient visits on record – a remarkable accomplishment! Looking to the future with optimism and dedication, West Hawaii Community Health Center continues to fi nd new ways to make health care available and accessible to our Island ohana. Congratulates our valuable healthcare partner, West Hawaii Community Health Center on their 10th anniversary
