WEST HAWAII TODAY | BIG ISLAND ENTERTAINMENT SCENE FRIDAY,JULY 7, 2017 | 7 Kailua Village Artists feature Kathleen Jaeger ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT Kathleen Jaeger will be showing a collection of her latest acrylic and mosaic works during her month as the Featured Artist at the Kailua Village Artists Gallery in July. While working in mosaic, Jaeger uses primarily stained glass as her tesserae as she creates both wall pieces and three-dimensional work. Other materials, such as beads, chain, or mirror may also be included. This year she has incorporated more dimension and relief to her otherwise twodimensional wall pieces. Jaeger also enjoys the challenge of working on unusual supports for her work, using discards from friends and family and finding ways to bring beauty and sometimes even a new function into their existence. Jaeger holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Phillips University and a Master of Science in Education in special education for emotionally disturbed children and youth from the University of Kansas. She spent her mainland career working within the public schools teaching art and as an art therapist in alternative settings for special needs students. Upon her retirement, she and her husband Bill moved to the Big Island. To meet the artist, Kathleen Jaeger and learn more about her work, she will be working at the gallery on Tuesday, the Kokua Kailua Stroll on July 16, and Monday, July 31.
