4 ONO-LICIOUS | JANUARY 13, 2017 Word on the Str(eat)! Ray’s on the Bay “My family stayed at the Sheraton in Kona in October and went to Rays on the Bay one of the nights. We had a phenomenal time! We made a 7pm reservation and were seated right away at a round table with a fire pit in the middle. It made for a cool ambiance, but it was hot and we were sweating, so our server turned it off for us. Our table overlooked the patio with the flood lights where you can see the manta rays at night, so that was cool. Our food was fabulous. For an appetizer, we got ahi poke, sushi, and Kauai shrimp and veggie kabobs. For salads we got Caesar with a delicious goat cheese and tomato bruschetta. My main course was a white fish and baby boy choy. Chef Ulep stopped by our table to chat and explained the menu is changed based on what produce and fish they get locally. I highly recommend Rays on the Bay for a fabulous dinner experience in the Kona area.” Nicole H., Kahului, HI Sansei Seafood and Sushi “I ordered Grilled Mahi well done: EXCELLENT 5/5. They know how to cook fish here…& it was so fresh tasting…not the dried out frozen stuff you get at some places. Mixed veggie tempura: taro, zucchini, red pepper, asparagus & onions: sooooo good! 5/5 Lillikoi mojito: refreshing & light 5/5 Spicy scallop hand roll: 5/5 fresh & spicy Spicy tuna hand roll (notice a trend): 5/5 Salmon skin hand roll: 5/5 If you don’t like seaweed, they do have soy wraps! What we both noticed was just how fresh the fish tasted… It doesn’t even taste like fish it is so fresh. Deep fried Mac Ice cream topped w/chocolate & caramel sauces: 4/5 unique treat Love this place…will be back before we leave here! Courtney was our server & she is awesome…knows the food well, great w/ recommendations.” – Carmela S., Ventura, CA Habañeros Grill “I’ve driven past this location dozens of times and had never stopped to check it out. It always looked like your typical Ali’i Drive “bar & grill” kind of place. My wife and I just needed to take care of our “just landed” hunger pangs, so we decided this place would be just as good (or bad) as any. We were expecting some plain and ordinary, run of the mill, “out of the can” Mexican food. Why we decided to try something a little more out of the norm is a still a mystery to us, but we ordered a couple of seafood dishes expecting the worst…and WHOA! After the first few bites, I was like, “This is some of the most delicious food I’ve had on this island”! * delicious ceviche verde - fresh, spicy, bright and flavorful with just the right balance of everything * great selection of Mexican beers & tequilas * Casey our server was awesome! * seafood enchiladas were amazing, the sauce tasted like a lobster/scallop bisque * seafood poblano was fantastic, stuffed full of crab, scallops & fish, in a delicious sauce * food arrived in a timely manner at the perfect, i mean perfect, temperature! Apparently, the owner and chef of Habaneros has studied and trained with multi-award winning chef Rick Bayless, whose Mexican restaurant “Red O” in Los Angeles is one of our favorites! What a wonderful surprise to stumble upon this gem on the Kona coast. We loved it so much, we ate there THREE times during our week stay. Habaneros will now be our go-to first stop on our future returns to the island. CHEERS!” Erick L., Santa Clarita, CA Check out our $8.95 Lunch Specials Mon-Friday 11am-2:30pm Located at the Keauhou Shopping Center Mon-Fri 11am-9pm Sat-Sun 12pm-9pm 322.8424 www.RoyalThaiCafe.com HAPPY HOUR 3-5 & 9-11 $2 OFF BEER AND WINE APPETIZERS AND LIQUOR FRESH.
