The familiar tunes will sound away at the Kamakahonu Ballrooms of the Marriott King Kamehameha Kona Beach Hotel. Featuring the Kona Festival Chorale Singers, the event will include a variety of traditional holiday fare along with the Hawaii premiere of the Taylor Scott Davis, Terry W. York choral work titled, “Small, Dancing Light.” “Jolly Jingle Christmas Medley” opens the first half of the concert with a lively rendition of some of the more notable songs of the season including, Up on the Housetop, Deck the Hall, O Christmas Tree, Jingle Bells, and Jolly Old Saint Nicholas in a raucous, toe-tapping version of these holiday favorites. The singing group Celebration, under the direction of Roberta King, will present four selections which will include Welcome Christmas from the Grinch that Stole Christmas, Tomorrow Shall be My Dancing Day, Up On the Housetop and a jazz version of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. The Apanage Singers will also step in with several selections which will include newly arranged versions of I Saw Three Ships, Under Winter Moon, White Christmas and Silent Night. Featured singers will include Misty Mistler in Where Are You Christmas? from the Grinch that Stole Christmas, Adorar al Nino (Come Adore the Baby) with Jo-Anna Boshard, Kalehua Meheula, and Carson Wilcox, and a perennial favorite; “The Night Before Christmas” with Carson Wilcox and Roberta King and much more. The 29th annual “Celebration of Christmas In Music” is dedicated in memory of Red Johnson, who sang with the chorale for more than 20 years, whose following will remember a voice that will forever belong to the Big Band era of music.
