ONO-LICIOUS | SEPTEMBER 30, 2016 3 FUMI’S KITCHEN: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., lunch • 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., dinner Saturday and Sunday 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., breakfast • 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., lunch • 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., dinner • Closed Tuesdays At Fumi’s Kitchen, Ronnie prepares popular Teshima’s favorites like tempura combo trays featuring chicken yakitori, beef teriyaki or grilled pankocrusted ahi served with miso soup and lots of sides. There are also great dishes like yakisoba, yakiudon, panko shrimp and miso butterfish, as well as tasty tempura fries, a popular new item at Fumi’s Kitchen. The Fumi’s menu can be described as “fusion cuisine meets local modern.” Some dishes take their inspiration from Ronnie’s Korean grandmother’s side of the family, such as the Jang Jo Rim — a spicy beef stew served Korean style. Other Koreaninfluenced entrées include the succulent kalbi ribeye and the crispy cucumber kimchee. When it comes to tempura, Fumi’s has all the bases covered, preparing shrimp and vegetable tempura in combination with seasoned New York steak, pork sukiyaki, panko-crusted ahi and more. Ronnie even has a few homemade dessert recipes up his sleeve, like his very own green tea cheesecake. In addition to lunch and dinner served daily (closed Tuesdays), Fumi’s Kitchen is open for breakfast on Saturday and Sunday. The breakfast menu features local favorites like Hawaii beef loco moco ($9.75) and the Hawaiian Samurai Breakfast served with a three-egg omelet and SPAM for $10.25. Offering patio seating outside, booths and tables inside, and barstool seating, Fumi’s puts ohana-style dining at the forefront. It’s the place where locals gather, families share a meal and visitors staying at nearby hotels and condos can discover great appetizers like the charred miso eggplant, shiso clams, fresh oysters, sashimi, hand-cut tempura, tsukemono or baked mussels. “I really do enjoy cooking and trying out new things,” said Ronnie. “It’s all about making people happy.” ■ CONTINUED FROM PAGE 1 DELICIOUS DINING CHOICES THE THREE FAT PIGS 808.339.7145 ROY’S WAIKOLOA BAR & GRILL 808.886.4321 ISLAND FISH AND CHIPS 808.886. 0005 Visit these fine establishments i Your ı… o Se D All Fresh Baked Desserts, Breads, Biscuits & Buns Sansei Seafood Bar and Grill 866-6286 Queens’ MarketPlace, 201 Waikoloa Beach Drive, Suite 801, Sam Choy’s 334-3434 78-6831 Alii Drive, Kailua-Kona Rays on the Bay 930-4900 78-128 Ehukai St., Kailua-Kona Romano’s Macaroni Grill 443-5515 Queen’s MarketPlace, 69-201 Waikoloa Beach Drive.
