The grandson of Kona’s legendary Grandma Teshima, Ronnie is the steward of the Teshima family’s recipes served at the landmark Teshima’s restaurant in nearby Honalo, still in business since 1929. Having worked at Teshima’s for many years, Ronnie opened Fumi’s Kitchen in 2014 in honor of his late mother, Fumi, who worked alongside her mother at Teshima’s for much of her life. “I grew up watching my mom and grandmother cook,” said Ronnie. “Cooking was interwoven into the family fabric and at Teshima’s restaurant. My mom and I always talked about opening another branch of the restaurant one day.
