Hiranaka M.D., D.M.D. MAXILLOFACIAL, FACIAL PLASTIC & RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGERY As we age, our skin loses its elasticity and gives in to gravity. This causes sagging of the neck and jaw line and can lead to loose folds of skin around the mouth. Today, men and women in their 50’s and 60’s are healthier, more active, and more productive than ever before. More and more people are choosing to age gracefully by setting back the clock a few years through facial cosmetic surgery. The truth is that most people seeking facial cosmetic surgery want to look better, but they don’t want to look radically different. The outcome of facial cosmetic surgery should be very natural in appearance. A great result is both in what you see and what you don’t see. A slow-moving storm will continue to bring heavy rain and flooding to a large part of the South Central states. Most areas from the northern Plains to the Four Corners will be dry. Rain is forecast to drench much of the Pacific coast. Correction In a March 1 story about Zika concerns in Hawaii, The Associated Press reported erroneously that farmer Steve Mann wouldn’t allow his home or farm to be sprayed with pesticides. Mann was concerned about the type of pesticide Hawaii vector control teams used to fight the dengue fever outbreak, but vector control workers never attempted to spray his property. Also, a reference to “no spray” signs in the story suggested that farmers were posting the signs in response to pesticides used to fight the outbreak. The signs are posted on more properties than just farms and can indicate unwillingness to allow spraying of other pesticides. It is the policy of West Hawaii Today to correct promptly any incorrect or misleading information when it is brought to the attention of the newspaper. New dengue fever case confirmed on Hawaii Island KAILUA-KONA — A new case of dengue fever has been confirmed on Hawaii Island, state health officials announced Thursday afternoon. The state Department of Health said the new case, which brings the total case count to 261, was locally acquired. Officials said the person did not have a history of recent travel outside of Hawaii. Prior to the new case announced Thursday, there hadn’t been a case confirmed on the island since Feb. 24. “We have been cautiously optimistic about the slowdown of cases over the last few weeks,” said Darryl Oliveira, administrator of the Hawaii County Civil Defense Agency and incident commander of the Hawaii Island dengue response. “Our plan has always been to continue to be vigilant and maintain our efforts to work with the community to protect our residents and visitors through education, outreach, and mosquito abatement.” IN BRIEF | BIG ISLAND & STATE SEE IN BRIEF PAGE 9A
