Church golf tournament set St. Michael’s Catholic Church will hold its seventh annual golf tournament at the newly opened Kona Country Club April 2. Christmas tree project seeks volunteers Imagine Hawaii having the tradition of getting the family together to visit a Christmas tree farm and selecting their own tree during the holiday season. Interested community members can help make that vision a reality by volunteering for the upcoming Aina Mauna Christmas Tree Demonstration Project Planting Workshop from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. March 18 on the slopes of Mauna Kea. The Hawaii Forest Industry Association project involves importing and propagating seed and outplanting Douglas, noble and grand fir trees on Department of Hawaiian Home Lands land. Bowling tournament supports caregiving event Hawaii Community Caregiver Network is holding a benefit bowling tournament from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 19 at KBXtreme in Kailua-Kona. The handicap tournament will consist of five-person teams that must include one female or one youth bowler older than 10 years. The entry fee is $150 per team, which includes a T-shirt and two door prize raffle tickets per bowler. Bowlers may sign up as individuals on a first-come, first-served basis the day of the event. Over spring break, award-winning magicians Bruce and Jennifer Meyers will offer a four-day Magic Camp in Honokaa and Hilo for future wizards age 6 and up. In Honokaa, Magic Camp is a joint project of Meyers, Hamakua Youth Center and the Peace Committee of Honokaa Hongwanji Buddhist Temple. The camp is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 16-19 in the temple’s social hall and Hamakua Youth Center. In Hilo, the Palace Theatre hosts Magic Camp from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 21-23. Magic students will be taught multiple new tricks every day, including how to make things appear and disappear, levitate, switch places.
