Ira Ono has the distinction of
having one of his ornaments
displayed on the White House
Christmas tree in 2002. He
utilized reproductions of a
Hawai‘i postage stamp from the
1850s to create the feathers of a
red i‘iwi bird for the ornament,
which now resides permanently
at the Smithsonian.
“In Hawai‘i, there is a wealth
of inspiration in nature
everywhere you look,” said Ira.
