Charley’s Thai This is great food amongst otherwise pricey competitors. Spring rolls, chicken pad thai, rice noodle salad w/chicken, and tom yum gai were especially good. “Mild” was spicey enough! Lots of spring rolls in the appetizer - let ‘em soak up the sauce! Friendly service & nice wine/beer selection. Tom B Ippy’s Hawaiian BBQ Our cabana hostess recommended we try Ippy’s. So glad she did! My husband picked up an order to go. We had the teriyaki chicken and the pulled pork loco moco. Both were DELICIOUS! The chicken was grilled perfectly and still very moist. The teriyaki sauce was very good — not too sweet and not too much. The pork was tender and moist as well. The portion sizes are HUGE. There are very few “reasonably” priced restaurant options in Waikoloa (this was our 5th time here). Ippy’s was very reasonable. $25 for the 2 entree, and they came with 2 sides. Will definitely eat here again. StephKD, Dallas, Texas Sansei Seafood & Sushi Bar Such a yummy place! We usually go for their happy hours. On Fridays there is karaoke and late night happy hour. Saturday nights there is live music until 12am and also late night happy hour. They have lots are local beers on tap! Right now they have Maui Brewing Mana Wheat which is one of my favorites so I have been going more than I probably should! The dynamite shrimp is soooo good! At the Sunday Monday happy hour they offer the panko crusted ahi. This dish is one of my all time favorites. I usually keep my plate and dip my other sushi in the sauce! In addition to their beers they have a huge selection of wine and spirits. They also have sake. My favorite is the unfiltered sake. Kela V., Colorado Habaneros Grill Absolutely delicious Margaritas, get the house, with all fresh juices!! The Mole is some of the best I’ve had, especially considering its vegetarian, which is hard to find. My favorite Mexican in Kona by far! Hannah T. Louisville, KY Kenichi Pacific It was my kid’s 17th birthday and the only thing she had been bugging us about while in Hawaii- sushi. So…what the birthday girl wants, the birthday girls gets (within reason). Noticed this place the first night in Kona and saw their daily Happy Hour sign. I’m always down for some discounted food and drinks. ALWAYS. First up: miso soup. OMG, it’s good. Rare to the day do I rave about miso soup cause it’s usually watery, flavorless, and not memorable… but Kenichi’s is so damn good- so flavorful and not too salty. Our kids ordered two each. It was that good. For starters, we got the Tenderloin Carpaccio and the Firecracker Shrimp. YUM! Then came the rolls- we ordered like 6 or so. Our favorite was the Kenichi Special-snow crab, tuna, cucumber, avocado, and smelt eggs on top. Second fave…the Rainbow Roll. The Tempura Shrimp is always a family fave of ours because everyone in the family will eat it: it’s like little kid approved. We also tried the Hawaiian Roll- Yellowtail, Serrano Chili, and Pineapple…not gonna lie, not a fan of mixing pineapple with meals but the b-day girl was feeling adventurous. They also have a pretty good chocolate lava cake…that is, if you have enough room in your belly. They also have a pretty good chocolate lava cake…that is, if you have enough room in your belly. Vanessa O. Redwood City, CA Island Fish & Chips A simple meal done well can be such a joy. My wife and I split a fish and chips platter during a break from shopping. Three solid and very fresh strips of sweet firm fish were cooked to perfection with a crispy crust. The fish and the crispy fries were tooooo hot to eat when served. PERFECT. Nice side of asian style coleslaw. Good tarter sauce for dipping. Simple. Hot. Fresh. Nice. Guy A., Sacramento, CA
