Closing of the Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) and
Project Based Voucher Program Waiting Lists
Effective July 10, 2015
On July 10, 2015, the Office of Housing and Community Development (OHCD) will
be closing the waiting list for the Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) Program and
the Project Based Voucher Program, except for the Project Based Voucher Program -
Ainakea Senior Residences. Except as noted, the OHCD will NOT accept any NEW
applications after this date. There are currently over 7,000 applicants on the
various waiting lists and the wait to receive assistance is much longer than the
recommended wait time. The waiting lists will reopen once the OHCD has addressed
those currently on the list as of the closing date. The public will be notified in
advance with specific details for application submittals. There is no scheduled date
to reopen these waiting lists at this time.
The OHCD will post on its website and in the local newspaper when it is prepared to
re-open the waiting list.
If your name is already on a waiting list, you do not need to take any action. The
OHCD will maintain your name and the date and time, you applied. You are still
required to update your personal information by submitting changes in writing to
the OHCD.
While the OHCD will not be taking new applications during the time the waiting list
is closed, staff will continue to process those currently on the list and make
vouchers offers as they become available.
