New artistic director Brian Dollinger has planned this program as an event that will entice and captivate a diverse audience of listeners young and old, including families. The concert features some of the most famous symphonic masterpieces that one would associate with Halloween or spooky stories. Masterworks by Hector Berlioz, Charles Gounod and Camille Saint-Saens are joined by music from Broadway and film that all ages will instantly recognize. Music from blockbuster movies such as “Pirates of the Caribbean” is sure to be a hit. Maestro Dollinger invites the entire audience, but especially the youngsters, to dress up in their favorite Halloween costumes for the concert. Dollinger is from Morton, Ill., and was chosen as the new artistic director for the orchestra in March after an extensive worldwide search. Dollinger also is music director for the Muscatine (Iowa) Symphony Orchestra, Clinton (Iowa) Symphony Orchestra and conductor of the Rock Island, Ill.-based Genesius Guild Summer Opera. He also has a strong passion for teaching, conducting and mentoring young musicians. Since he thinks sharing the great art form of symphonic music, particularly with young people, is important to the future of classical music and as a cultural asset, Dollinger is excited to be leading a group that shares these goals. He and musicians from the orchestra plan to visit many Hawaii Island elementary school students throughout the school year as a new education outreach initiative. Tickets for the event are available for purchase online by visiting www.kamuelaphil. org. Admission is $25 for adults and free for children 18 and younger. Parking at the venue will be $5 per vehicle for audience members. For more information about Dollinger, visit www.briandollinger. com.
