Claire Bajo, REALTOR® with Island
Home Realty, was another volunteer.
Claire described her latest trip to
deliver supplies, “We went to Puna on
Saturday to drop off donations from
Realtors and Lenders on the Kona
side, and it was awesome to see the
Aloha Spirit at work in the relief efforts
at the Pu‘uhonua o Puna station,
located across the street from Pahoa
High School. Sam Choy’s and Fishhopper
(Kona restaurateurs), were there
to serve hot food to the community
and volunteers. Many were helping to
receive donations as truckloads of supplies
came in from generous people all
over the island. We helped to unload
a van that was packed floor to ceiling
with everything from sleeping bags and
bedding items, to paper towels and
laundry soap, etc. I was touched by
the outpouring of generosity and true
Aloha Spirit felt from the community as
we continue to help our Puna Ohana
get through these changing times.”

Park website says it best, “During a
volcanic eruption, we are reminded
that our planet is an ever-changing environment
whose basic processes are
beyond human control. As much as
we have altered the face of the Earth
to suit our needs, we can only stand in
awe before the power of an eruption.”
Halema‘uma‘u Crater at the summit
of Kilauea is believed to be the home
of Madame Pele, the Hawaiian volcano
goddess. Take the time to “talk story”
with local Hawaiians, and learn of her
legends and the Hawaiian chants that
tell stories of her fiery temperament. Volcanic
