rim that can be struck for a variety of sounds.
She has eight gongs total, plus a dozen singing
bowls, chimes and a variety of instruments.
During a gong bath, participants lie on
the floor, close their eyes and absorb the
vibrations as Alice plays her gongs with a large,
padded mallet. Her newly installed hardwood
floors enhance the acoustics. Large louvered
windows keep the airflow circulating.
“The peaceful, happy faces are what I like
best,” said Alice. “After the session, I’ll walk
around the room with my chimes to bring
everyone back to earth. It’s up to each person
what they get out of it, but most people tell
me they sleep extremely well that night, or
that their anxiety has been decreased.”

Alice recently transported several of her gongs
to Pahoa where she performed a gong bath
for lava evacuees at one of the shelters. Her
intention was to provide a calming space
for attendees traumatized by the Kilauea
eruption. Alice also incorporates singing bowls
and drums into her energy medicine practice.
“The sound of the gong is a living tone,” she
said. “It leaves the instrument and makes baby
tones. There are very few of us in the world
who practice gong bath regularly. I am going
to start a gong/yoga class very soon.”
