Simply put,
Huddleston
blazed a
spectacular trail
as a BIIF pioneer
from August to
November.
The Vikings’
senior running
back gave a
glimpse of his
special season
to come with a
six-touchdown
preseason performance
against
Iolani on Oahu.
He didn’t slow
down until he
was back in
Honolulu, helping
Hilo become
the Big Island’s
first state football
champion.
Huddleston
accounted for
a dizzying 35
touchdowns on
the season.

CALVIN MATTOS
Basketball • Waiakea
Mattos already had his third BIIF
D-I boys basketball Player of
the Year honor wrapped up,
but it looked like the Warriors were
going to lose in the title game until
he finished with one final heroic.
With time winding down, Mattos
calmly dribbled the ball down the
court and buried a game-tying 3-pointer
against Konawaena, and a subsequent
steal and layup at the buzzer
gave Waiakea a second straight title.
After scoring 24 points in the semifinals,
Mattos added 16 in the final.
