Man, what a perfect world. Fast forward to present day Kona and we find ourselves sitting next to kings, queens, poets, musicians, jesters, chefs and bartenders. Wow! It really is a perfect world. Always being asked “Why did you two become barbers?” I still have to reply “We just didn’t know any better!” And of course nobody tried to stop us. The real bottom line is, you have to be a people person to work in this industry. We have been so blessed to have met and serviced the most beautiful people on earth, those who call Kona home. In the winter of 1991, a young couple on honeymoon in Kona noticed a shortage of barber shops in town rushed home to sell their successful medical practice and rushed, slowly, back to open Hannan’s Barber Shop. In 1995, Liam & Marie successfully escaped Los Angeles & were very fortunate to be able to rent a space between Fernan’s & Gaylle’s “French Bakery” and Dana’s “Kona Beauty Supply”. Actually, Karen’s “Heart to Heart” was in the barber shops current space and we were in John’s “Kona Engraving” space. By walking around town on Mondays, our day off, and introducing ourselves to locals as the new barbers in town, we were able after three months’ time to look at each other and say “We need to find some more barbers to work in here!” We have been very fortunate to have had many very fine people work along-side of us in these past 20 years. Some left to start their own shops and some left to go back to America (Go figure!). Well, we are still here along with Gaou, Tesha, Kaelyn, Brandi, Lynnese and Steven. As always, we are still taking the average looking guy and turning him into a fine looking gentleman. Women and children of all temperaments have also always been a big part of our specialty and true pleasures to transform. Thank you people of Kona for these 20 years of serving you and especially for voting us your Kona’s Best Barbershop.
