Daiichi Ramen I took my family of five on a whim, since we were in the shopping center for something else and my teenage son pinged on the “Ramen” and basically demanded that we eat there. I’m so glad we did! The menu takes a little explaining if you haven’t eaten there before, but our waitress was friendly and patient as we clunked our way through. They have single bowls of every different type of broth and protein, vegetarian selections, or you can get combos with soup/2 sides…with about 12 side options. If you can’t find something you like here…then you just don’t like Ramen type soup and shouldn’t haven eaten here in the first place. My point about cheap, all five of us had soup combos, had to leave food on the table, and it was $70 with the tip! If you’re visiting Kona on a tight budget, hit this place up! Aaron G. Ippy’s Hawaiian Barbeque I can’t believe this place is in a food court. The menu and options were great. Unique. The Chicken Curry Stew was out of this world. Also had other meats on the menu and they were all good. Definitely recommend for lunch!! Renee E. Roy’s Waikoloa Bar & Grill The food and drinks are amazing! We been visiting this Roy’s from the time they opened. Arnie was are server the 1st time we visited and now after 20 years he is the best GM ever! We have seen several remodels at this location and it looks fresh and clean as it always does. We were hoping Jackie Lau was still the chef she was a very talented Chef. Thank you All. Brad & Lynda lb246kona, Orange County, CA Bongo Ben’s Island Café While visiting the big island of Hawaii our family stopped at Bongo Ben’s Island Cafe at the south end of Kailua/Kona. They lunch and breakfast. Had some delicious fish tacos. Try the coconut crusted onion rings. Yum! Nazsnaz Livermore, CA Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse Why do we love Ruth’s Chris? The butter of course. Steak and salad are the go to and I feel that Ruth’s Chris is fairly consistent when it comes to quality. Please note that the menus do vary from location to location. What I love about this location is that if you sit outside on Mondays and Thursdays you can catch the Polynesian show that goes on just below. Dinner and a show? No better value around. Aloha! kona921 Visalia, CA CanoeHouse The food here is awesome. Even if you don’t stay at the hotel you should put this on your bucket list of places to have dinner. When you stay at the hotel it is a must. Great food and service. I been twice this year and both times was just wonderful .The staff there will go out of there way to make sure you are taking care of. They made a dessert that was not even on the menu. Truly Hawaiian Aloha Keith S. Mountain View, HI Privateer’s Cove If you enjoy something fun and not your average chain restaurant experience then this is your place. The food was delicious and they had very unique choices. The servers were hilarious and the owner was a hoot as well. Personally it was just pure fun with good food. Bring your own wine, beer, and liquor which in my opinion is pretty awesome. Definitely a highlight of our trip to the Big Island! TravelGalUNC Charlotte, NC Foster’s Kitchen This is by far the best restaurant in Kona if you’re looking for high-quality, organic and locally sourced delectable food! Our waitress was amazing and her recommendations were spot on! If you’re a foodie, this restaurant is a MUST! Almost everything is made from scratch. We had the calamari, which was cooked perfectly, no batter or breading like every other place here. The butternut squash soup is unlike anything I’ve ever had before and comes with a wonderful surprise of shrimp and crab ceviche but the best part was the lamb chops, well seasoned and delicious beyond words! You won’t regret eating here! Diana D. Lake Elsinore, CA Lemongrass Bistro We visited the place twice. High score both times. Fast service. Oxtail and pork bell were awesome. So was soft crab tempura. Lemongrass ice tea was very refreshing. Fast and friendly service. Very convenient location - just one block from farmer market. They also have their parking lot, which is big plus for Kona. Dmitrikotchetov Redmond, WA Noodle Club This was our second visit to Noodle Club (1 year apart) and I’m happy to report that it’s still excellent. Very well constructed broths that were clearly made from scratch, and fresh ingredients throughout. This is not a “fast food” place and is not priced as such. However, the care and attention to detail in their preparation and flavors are readily evident. The beef broth alone in my “bowl of Seoul” (their take on kimchee ramen) was worth the price. Having recently had the “best ramen in Paris (France)”, I’ll take Noodle Club over it any time. Their other bowls showed the same care in execution and their desserts were also excellent. Compared to the pricey if not generic meals down at the Kohala resorts, you’re getting some real island flavors that are worthy of being served in a resort hotel dining room, but at very competitive price. We’ll definitely be back. Lance I.
