Konawaena golf tournament The 11th annual Konawaena Foundation Golf Tournament is slated for May 7 at the newly opened Kona Country Club. Registration begins at 7 a.m. with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. The golf tournament format is two-person scramble with each person hitting at least 6 tee shots. Total maximum handicap per two-person team is 48 (calculated by averaging the players’ handicaps and taking 80 percent of that total as recommended by the USGA). Two mulligans per person are available for purchase at $5 each. Cost to play is $125 per person and the entry fee includes green fees, cart and great prizes. To sponsor a hole or to make a prize donation contact Reginald Morimoto at 974-2177. 35th annual Mac-A-Thon Hawaii Island’s oldest foot race, Keoua Honaunau Canoe Club’s “Mac-A-Thon,” takes place annually the day before Easter. This year’s funfilled family event will be held on March 26. The race start is at 7 a.m. Early registration (up until March 21) is only $35, and convenient online registration is available. The Mac-A-Thon offers distances of 5K or 10K on the old government road that extends from the sacred waters of Honaunau Bay to Napo’opo’o. Each race course is the same, except that the 5K turnaround is halfway into the 10K course. The entry form is available at the Keoua Honaunau Canoe Club website at keouacanoeclub. com. Entry fees are$35 until March 21, and $40 on race day. Juniors (14 & under) are $10 pre-registered, $15 on race day. Pre-registered runners will receive a race T-shirt. Keauhou Canoe Club’s upcoming races The Kauikeaouli Challenge Races will take place on March 19 at Keauhou Bay. Lavakids Family Fun Runs On Saturday, LavaKids, in partnership with Club Rehab, will host its Family Fun Runs at 7 a.m. on Ane Keohokalole Highway between Palani Road and Kealakehe High School. The guest speaker this month will be coach David Baldwin, who will talk about the importance of form and function while running. Registration will take place at 7 a.m. followed by a keiki dash at 7:45 a.m.. The one-mile and 2-mile run/walk will begin at 7:55 a.m. with the 5k run/walk right after.
