12 Sunday, July 30, 2017 Hawaii Tribune-Herald STANDING COMMITTEES Economic Development This committee works to enhance the general business climate on Hawaii Island and to support a stable and healthy economy. The committee encourages development of new industries and the expansion of existing businesses on the Island of Hawai‘i which will enhance the general business climate. Events sponsored by HICC’s Economic Development Committee for members included an all-day workshop challenge where attendees learned the concept of the Design Thinking process; a number of luncheon presentations featuring Hawaiian Telcom, Hilo Medical Center and East Hawaii Regional CEO Dan Brinkman, Dean of the Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy Carolyn Ma, and “How the Mortality Revolution Impacts Closely Held Family Businesses” presented by Milestone Coach Advisory Services. Other educational presentations included one by Community First titled, “The House IS Burning” and an Interviewing Skills workshop for employers which featured HICC board member Jackie De Luz Watanabe, President of Big Island Toyota. The chairwoman of the Economic HAWAI‘I ISLAND CHAMBER OF COMMERCE Development Committee is Chamber Vice President Rhea Lee-Moku of Hawai‘i Electric Light Company. Members and member employees are invited to take a more active role and join this committee which meets on each the third Wednesday of the month at 11:30 a.m. the Hawaii Innovation Center conference room.
