Express at Queens’
MarketPlace
The green papaya
salad was AMAZING!
We even went 2
days in a row!
Refreshing and
Delicious. The staff
even remembered
my moms name and
order! The udon soup,
and udon yakisoba
were on fiiiireee. Go
here. Price is a little
high but you can
order like family style.
Huge servings!

Al Vicolo Italian
Restaurant
I highly recommend
this place if you love
amazing food! We
ordered all kinds of
dishes and they were
all so good! They hand
make their pasta and
gnocchi and lots of
other things. Hands
down best pasta of
my life and I’m Italian!
I had the penne de
mare and my husband
had the ribeye, which
was huge! And he
loved it he said it
was so flavorful and
perfect. We also
had the eggplant
Parmesan which
was outstanding
(it was the special)
the service there
is like family.
This is a very
family place, with
outstanding authentic
Italian food! We
will be going again
and again!!

So many choices
of food but you
couldn’t go wrong
deciding, everything
tasted great. Lovely
service as well.

Lots of choices.
Lava Flows and Mai
Tais IPAs, Draft Beer,
Wine available. Wings,
yummy Calamari
and pupu platters
(appetizers). There
was Vog (volcano fog)
when we there, but
otherwise I’m sure
that view would have
been great! Great
service. Happy Hour
started at 3 p.m.!

Rays on the Bay
Our experience
at Ray’s on the Bay
was exceptional
especially because
our waiter Daniel was
so personable and
responsive to our need
to have quick service.
Some in our party got
to their canoe ride
appointment to view
the Manta Rays from
the water while my
husband and I stayed
to view from the ocean
side dining area.

Amazing drinks!!
Great service, live
music & an all around
good time!! The beer
selection is plenty of
local choices & your
normal German &
American brews. The
beer digital board
shows how full the
keg is. Make sure
to stop in & have a
drink! The resort bars
close around 7 p.m.
so this spot being
open till midnight
was great! There is
patio seating as well.

Good food. Fun
decor. Nice people.
Nonstandard service.
If you don’t want
to have a rowdy
but good-natured
conversation with
the chef don’t go.
Otherwise, definitely
go. It makes the list
of memorable spots
from our vacation.

Foster’s Kitchen
We had dinner at
Foster’s on our last
night on Hawaii. It had
been recommended &
met every expectation.
Perfect location
upstairs with view
over the ocean with
the sunset. Our
server, Shantelle, was
friendly, efficient,
and made great
recommendations.
We enjoyed our
evening with great
food and atmosphere.

Bongo Ben’s
Island Café
Breakfast here was
very tasty! Had their
macadamia nut and
bananas pancakes.
THE BEST! My hubby
had loco moco and
said it was very
good! We sat where
we could watch the
semi final soccer
match. They were very
accommodating, not
minding if we stayed
there the whole time.

Los Habaneros
Coming from
California, I hold a
really high standard
for Mexican food.
With that being
said, the flavors this
place gives is pretty
close to hitting my
expectations. I’ve
been here five times,
and they haven’t
failed me yet. They’re
consistent in their
flavors and portions.
I recommend the
chicken chimichanga
and a churro for
dessert! This place
is definitely my go-to
for Mexican food.

Drive-Ins and Dives’
BY KAREN ANDERSON
SPECIAL TO WEST
Famous chef Guy Fieri
visited Kona this summer
to check out the
local restaurant scene
for his Food Network
show, “Diners, Drive-Ins
and Dives.” One of his
first stops was Foster’s
Kitchen on Alii Drive.
Described by Chef
Fieri as “a joint that
has an island flair with
some Southern attitude,”
Foster’s Kitchen features
a fresh take on comfort
food from its oceanfront
perch. Recently aired on
the Food Network, the
Foster’s Kitchen episode
featured Chef Sheldon
Meza in action wearing a
colorful chef ’s hat while
preparing Southern
Stuffed Chicken Breast
with Kona Coffee Red-
Eye Gravy.
“I like looking good
while I’m making good
food,” quipped Chef
Meza as he demonstrated
his technique for
making the island-infused
Southern-style
dish stuffed with Irish
Cheddar, Mozzarella
and Parmesan cheeses
melted inside prosciutto.
A customer favorite,
the tantalizing entrée is
served with Kona Coffee
Red Eye gravy, sautéed
veggies and Hamakua
mushrooms.
“He grew up in North
Carolina but has also
jumped right into the
Rainbow State’s rhythm,”
noted Fieri about Chef
Meza’s creative take
on island ingredients.
The famous host also
expressed enthusiasm
for Chef ’s Meza’s Citrus
Avocado Poke topped
with silky avocado
mousse and black bean
puree. “That Poke’s no
Jokey,” Fieri said.
If you missed the official
airing of the full
episode titled “Playin’
Chicken,” (Season 28,
Episode 14), the Foster’s
Kitchen segment can be
viewed online at Vimeo.

Congratulations to
Foster’s Kitchen for the
prestigious distinction
of being featured on the
