SPECIAL TO WEST HAWAII TODAY
On Friday, July 20, Privateer’s Cove will become
“Ben’s Privateer’s Cove” for a day, as the adventurous
dining destination in Kailua-Kona celebrates the 16th
birthday of a favorite customer, Ben.
To take place from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., the festive celebration
will feature a banquet dinner highlighted by an
enormous 350-pound chocolate birthday cake built like
a pirate ship by the chefs of Privateer’s Cove.
“The cake will be made of 200 pounds of hand-molded
chocolate and 90 pounds of sugar on the sails,” said
Nick Traxler, chef/owner of Privateer’s Cove. “We’ll
be using brownies for structural integrity of the ship,
molded chocolate for the planks, spun sugar for the
sails, and chocolate mousse and ganache for the finishing
touches. This will be the second time in my career
that I’ve attempted to create a large-scale pirate ship.
The other was for a retirement party for 30-year Navy
veteran.”
