Los Habaneros
In the Keauhou Shopping
Center, this small restaurant
offers breakfast starting at 10
a.m. and continues until 11. Hubby
and both had Huevos Ranchero
and were pleasantly surprised.
While we were expecting
scrambled egg , rice and beans
served individually with salsa
topping, there was a Hawaiian
twist (a la Loco Moco) in that a
corn tortilla burrito stuffed with
rice and beans, was topped with 2
FRIED (NOT scrambled) eggs, and
covered with a Mexican tomato
sauce. The plate was very large,
and I was surprised that I was able
to finish it all, but both of us did.
Service was fine, the restaurant
holds about 40 people maximum
(including four seats outside),
the music played inside was
sort of Mexican-rap or Hip
Hop, so hubby and I took our
67 year old selves outside for
a less intense experience.
Food was served on nice paper
plates (perhaps because they were
advertising for help wanted....or
not), and the utensils were plastic
forks. My husband (who is quite a
picky eater) was relieved that they
served a small separate plastic
cup of cilantro and onions to be
added at the diner’s discretion.
They also served three types of
salsa (mild, medium and very
hot) in those small mini-cups.
Be advised that the smaller
(I assume habanero) serving is
VERY hot and will stay with you
for a long time. Credit cards and
cash are all accepted and the
drinks are typical soft drinks,
which includes root beer.
Total cost was $18.50.

IHOP
Our family of six dined at IHOP
– ordered four Philly Cheese
Steak Sandwiches, a patty melt
and turkey club with avocado.
The sandwiches were thick,
delicious and filling. Sides of crispy
hash browns were also an excellent
choice. Very reasonable in price.

Charley’s Thai Cuisine

I ordered Pad Woonsen and
requested it at 4 star spiciness
and it came out perfectly. The
atmosphere was nice and it’s a cute
place. I highly recommend this.

As is usual, the service, the
food, and the beverages were
outstanding for dinner with a
terrific sunset as an added bonus.
The restaurant along with the
Mauna Lani hotel is closing in
September for a $100M 14-month
renovation. So don’t miss this
wonderful spot before it is too late.

We visited this place more
times than I can count, lol! I had
breakfast here daily because it
was pretty cheap for Hawaii (less
than $10). I also bought a few
souvenirs here and candy to take
back to my office as a treat.
It is a great option if you do
not want to break the bank
but need a quick meal and feel
like doing some light shopping
for pretty much anything you
need on a Hawaii vacation.

The food is delicious and for
a busy restaurant we received
plenty of attention. Our server Lala
was fantastic and remembered
us from previous visits.

We absolutely love this
restaurant. Breathtaking,
panoramic view of Kailua-Kona
from up high, beautiful restaurant,
great drinks, and very good food.
Very good service and they were
kind to our 8-year old. Food is fresh,
unique, delicious — seasoning
and presentation are great.

Bongo Ben’s Island Café
My family and I came here for
breakfast on Mother’s Day. It was
busy, but the wait was not long at
all. We shared an omelet and the
macnut and banana pancakes.
Both dishes were very good and
service was great. The view made
it extra special though. I’d check it
out for lunch and dinner next time.

Grab-and-go doesn’t have to be the
equivalent of dreary fast food. There
are many great restaurants and eateries
in West Hawaii that offer gourmet
take-out that’s both delicious and
convenient.
A popular eatery at Keauhou
Shopping Center, Los Habaneros
presents taqueria-style choices including
enchiladas, quesadillas, burritos,
tacos, tostadas, chimichangas and
more. Meals are served on environmentally
friendly paper plates. Order
your meal to go, or take a seat at one
of the glass-topped wooden tables
beneath the wagon wheels that hang
on the walls.
At Waikoloa Beach Resort, Island
Gourmet Market boasts a great deli
that serves up plenty of quick choices
like fish tacos, pizza, gourmet hot
dogs, three-piece fried chicken meal,
gourmet burgers, toasted sandwiches,
salad bar, and even omelets, pancakes
and steak-and-eggs for breakfast.
There’s even a kids’ menu featuring
sandwiches, hot dogs and more.
Island Fish & Chips presents an
extensive to-go menu at the Kings’
Shops. The star attractions at Island
Fish & Chips are the Island Baskets
— specifically the signature tempura
Fish & Chips served with pineapple
cole slaw.
For quick dining choices, check out
Denny’s in Kailua-Kona, where you
can have your meal boxed up to go.
