Great place. Fresh and
tasty. The calamari is great.
I haven’t tried anything
here that didn’t taste good.
I usually get the food to
go and there is always
plenty for everyone.

Rays on the Bay at
Sheraton Kona Resort
You don’t need to eat
at Rays to take advantage
of the Manta Ray views.
BUT you should! Ray’s was
yummy. Serving both casual
and more upscale food
options, there is something
for all price ranges. It may
be a more relaxed setting
(you are in Hawaii), it is far
from sloppy and casual. The
ambiance can be romantic
with live music, candlelight, a
beach breeze... it was lovely.
During our stay, we tried
the fish tacos, the burgers,
a salad and a chocolate
dessert! Everything was
delicious. Service was
excellent. We ate at both
the bar and at a table - the
service was no different -
prompt, and energetic. And
the Mantas... they showed
up every night... every night!

IHOP
Friendly staff and nice
atmosphere and delicious
food. Absolutely a place to
go for breakfast. Our orders
were delivered quickly and
the staff came to our table
several times to reassure
that everything was in order.

Island Fish & Chips
at Kings’ Shops
This is a walk up
restaurant but there is
a nice covered area with
tables and chairs right by it
to sit and eat. We got fried
oysters and the fried local
fish. Both were delicious. We
enjoyed the quick lunch while
shopping in the market.
Decently priced as well.

Island Gourmet
Market at Queens’
MarketPlace
Island Gourmet Markets
was a lifesaver and one of
the surprises of our trip. Its
a small island supermarket
that has everything you’ll
need at a reasonable (for
the islands) price. Especially
given its location to the
resorts. Here’s the big tip: if
you are staying in Waikoloa
its a great stop for really
good, fast, cheap breakfast
and lunch. Prepared fresh
right there. This place really
saved our budget on our
trip and you can’t go wrong
here. We also picked up
some good cheap gifts for
people and the reef safe
sunscreen. Another island
secret: get your Rose Lani Ice
Cream here. Only available
in the islands from all island
locally sourced ingredients.
Life changing ice cream!

Bistro at the Waikoloa
Luxury Cinemas
We actually didn’t even
come here to see a movie.
We were looking for a
venue to watch a college
basketball game and
Luxury Cinemas was the
perfect place! We chose
to sit outside, which was
covered and featured a
wall of televisions and high
end, attractive and very
comfortable cushioned
chairs and tables. Drinks
were great and appetizers
even better! The manager,
assistant manager and
server went above and
beyond to ensure we had
everything we needed.
Although our team lost
the game, Luxury Cinemas
provided us with a fantastic
afternoon! We even came
back that evening for
dessert before heading back
to our condo. The carrot
cake and huge macaroon
cookie really hit the spot.

Foster’s Kitchen
I found Fosters through
a GF app. What a great
find! Locally sourced, well
prepared and great staff.
Best shrimp and grits I’ve
ever had!! My husband
had the fresh catch. Also
excellent. Great view as well.
Not what you typically find
in a super touristy area. So
glad we tried it. We’ll be back.

Al Vicolo Italian
Restaurant
I’ve eaten at Italian
restaurants across the U.S.
and elsewhere, including
Italy, and the food here
ranks with the very best.
Even the bread was served
with outstanding extra virgin
olive oil, which told me we
were in for a treat. Excellent
value, especially for the
pastas. Mixed salad ($10)
was enough for two to share,
with crisp mixed greens and
fresh cherry tomatoes. My
pesto pasta was superb, and
my friend’s spaghetti alfredo
was the most sublime I’ve
ever tasted--deliciously
cheesy without the creamy/
goopy texture so common
with typical alfredo sauce.
Pasta was perfectly al
dente. Be prepared to savor
your meal, a la Italia —
the
service is leisurely, and
this isn’t a place to rush
in and out of. Ambiance is
nice enough for a special
occasion, yet you won’t feel
out of place dressed more
informally. Stupendo!

Los Habaneros
This hole-in-the-wall
restaurant at the north end
of Keauhou Shopping Center
serves up excellent Mexican
prepared to order for eat-in
or take-out. Plates come with
a mountain of your meat of
choice, rice, refried beans,
guac, sour cream, a couple
of tortillas & some lettuce.
They are massive! One plate
is easily enough for two
people. Plates are about $10.
We love the carnitas! Slow
cooked pork that melts in
your mouth! The chicken is
grilled and also very good.
If you are just hungry for a
little something, their tacos
are $3.50 and come with
your choice of meat, soft
corn or flour tortilla, and
all the fixins. Yummy! One
word of caution, their salsa
comes in either mild or hot
and the hot is rip-roaring,
sear-your-tongue hot!
Request it at your own risk!
