Rays on the Bay
Came here for a bite
after doing a Manta
Snorkel from the Bay.
Had a wonderful salad
and awesome Creme
Brule. The Rays were
showing off in the
spotlight and provided
ample entertainment
for the entire meal!

Al Vicolo Italian
Restaurant
The quality of the
food at Al Vicolo is
extremely high - just
the right blend of
fresh and imported
ingredients from Italy.
Like all restaurants
in Kawaihae harbor,
it’s easy ignore the
container port across
the street and focus on
the atmosphere within
(in this case, a vintage
little building with
porch seating and cute
bar). We’ve dined here
several times, definitely
enjoying the different
appetizer plates, salads,
pastas, and pizzas.
The latter probably
are the best on the
island (thin, crispy
crusts with nongloopy
toppings - if
you’re from the Bay
Area, think Pizzeria
Delfina). We’ve always
been pleased with the
gracious service. While
some more negative
reviews focus on spotty
service, it’s simply a
fact that many Big
Island restaurants
suffer from finding
enough good staffing.
This place is
honest when they are
occasionally shortstaffed,
and they try
hard to rectify it. If
you come feeling
un-rushed and with an
appreciation for what
authentic Italian is like,
you’ll have a great meal.

Sansei Seafood
Restaurant
& Sushi Bar
If you love sushi
and seafood but are
watching your costs,
visit this restaurant
during the hours when it
offers discounted prices
on food and drink. Our
group dined at 5:30
and took advantage of
discounted food and
drink prices that reduced
our final bill by about 25
percent. I understand
they also may offer late
night specials, so check
when booking. Everyone
ordered a couple of
different sushi items
and all were delicious.
Service was quick and
efficient. As a bonus, just
outside the restaurant,
in the mall plaza is a koi
pond to amuse restless
little ones, and a gazebo
where concerts often
take place. I see that
Sansei is a small chain
with restaurants on
other Hawaiian islands,
and based on my
experience in Waikoloa
I would certainly visit
their other locations if
I had the opportunity.

Great food, service,
and ambiance. We’ve
eaten here many times
over the past 6 years
and have never been
disappointed. We’ve
tried every fish on menu
and a few vegetarian
and chicken dishes and
all have been excellent.
Great sunset viewing.

Interesting menu.
We had their $10 lunch
stir-fry. You can choose
what you want. We had
udon noodles with pea
pods red peppers and
cabbage in a curry sauce
with shrimp. The veggies
were fresh. Sauce great.
Shrimp very good. We paid
$2 extra for extra shrimp
and there were lots of
them. The dish fed both
of us. BYOB. What a deal.
Do not miss the Crème
Brule. We will return to
try their dinner menu.
