ONO-LICIOUS | APRIL 14, 2017 3 A-Bay’s Island Grill “We were a party of four and met by the owners Darcy and Toni. They made all the choices for us and we were thrilled with the selection. We enjoyed mostly appetizers and these included wonderful ahi poke with avocado and Lupia which is a version of a Phillipino crispy roll in phyllo pastry. We enjoyed strips of steak and mashed potatoes with a local aioli. We also had shrimp tacos with homemade corn tortillas. Dessert was to die for with banana lupias and vanilla ice cream along side a fluffy passionfruit cheesecake. We will be back in July for more.” Honu Bar at Mauna Lani “We arrived late at the Mauna Lani Hotel and went DavidNoel5678 Vancouver, Canada West Hawaii Today Restaurant Directory At Queens’ MarketPlace Subway Sandwiches & Salads 886-1888 http://Subway.com Island Gourmet Markets 886-3577 At Kings’ Shops 250 Waikoloa Beach Drive 886-8811 http://kingsshops.com A-Bay’s Island Grill 209-8494 http://a-bays.com Island Fish & Chips 886-0005 Roy’s Waikoloa Bar & Grill 886-4321 http://royshawaii.com The Koa Table 339-7145 The Noodle Club Parker Ranch Center 885-8825 https://www.facebook.com/ pg/noodleclubwaimea/ Inspired by the local cuisine he was raised on, Chef Ippy Aiona recently open his new restaurant, The Koa Table, located at the Kings’ Shops. WAIMEA to this hotel bar to get a bite to eat. We ordered the pizza and it was surprisingly good. Not a bad price. One pizza was enough for two people. Very nice atmosphere with a mellow music piano player. Very nice interior, and excellent service. It’s located right by the turle (honu) pond, so during the day it has nice views of the pond and grounds.” Beachwatcher14 Whidbey Island, Washington Hawaiian Fish & Chips at Queen’s Marketplace “They are located In the food court of Queens Marketplace, this place has a small shop that sells fish and chips with Ono. You will get a nice portion of this mild white fish for $14 a plate. The plate includes coleslaw, fries and three pieces of Ono and was very tasty. Service is quick here and friendly. The same amount of Ono in an upscale restaurant would cost $40.” Bob M. San Antonio, TX Privateer’s Cove “Great food, reasonably priced, funky atmosphere. Who could ask for anything more? The menu changes regularly. If you’re a vegetarian, like me, be sure to ask what’s available- Nick doesn’t put everything on the menu. The truffled mac & cheese was amazing (a bit salty due to the Gorgonzola, but still to die for). My partner had the gumbo and he practically licked the bowl.” Doggle_99 Captain Cook, Hawaii Ruth’s Chris Steak House “We ate at Ruth’s Chris after eating at half a dozen other restaurants on our vacation. The restaurant choices on the Kona coast are unbelievably meager and vacationers and homeowners have no where to eat other than hotels or pricey chain restaurants. Vacationers are truly a captive audience. Ruth’s Chris was the best of the lot, that included Roy’s and Tommy Bahama. I had the three course early bird special. My wife basically ate sides. She is a very light eater. The filet was excellent. Her sides were also well prepared. The service was excellent. Our waiter Mike was great. Prices were less than expected given the level of service, ambience, and dinner quality. The special, available before 6 is an excellent bargain.” Bill J. Petaluma, CA Starbucks at Queen’s Marketplace “This is a smaller store in the Queens Marketplace in the Waikoloa resort area of the Kohala Coast on the Big Island. They are very attentive and the line moves quickly. They have most newspapers with the exception of the New York Times. Their selection of pastries and breakfast items are the same as most other Starbucks. The store manager also stopped by my table to take a quick survey as to their operation here. Good service and a clean store!” David T. Honolulu, HI Word on the Str(eat)!
