Sponsored by the Friends of the Libraries, Kona, the 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. event will be held on the lanai of the library where members will discuss “Six of Crows” by Leigh Bardugo. Info: 327-4327. Nonfiction book club meets Tuesday Kona Stories hosts a nonfiction book club discussing “The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair That Changed America” by Erik Larson on Tuesday. The group meets at 6 p.m. at the store. Book groups are free if books are purchased at Kona Stories, or a $5 donation is requested. The book tells the story of two men’s obsessions with the Chicago World’s Fair, one its architect, the other a murderer. The Devil in the White City draws the reader into a time of magic and majesty, made all the more appealing by a supporting cast of real-life characters, including Buffalo Bill, Theodore Dreiser, Susan B. Anthony, Thomas Edison, Archduke Francis Ferdinand, and others. Combining meticulous research with nail-biting storytelling, Larson has crafted a narrative with all the wonder of newly discovered history and the thrills of the best fiction. Undoubtedly a favorite snack in Hawaii, its popularity spread to the mainland with former Hawaii residents who took this amazing food with them to share with friends and neighbors.
