Beneath starry skies, a unique Hawaiian cultural and dining experience awaits guests of the Haleo Luau Dinner. The story of Haleo, the Voice of Life, reveals the history of Keauhou and the historic areas that surround the resort. From the birthplace of Kamehameha III at Keauhou Bay to the beginnings of surfing at Heeia Bay, the area’s significance to Hawaiian history is honored at the Haleo luau, which takes visitors on a journey in time that is both entertaining and educational. As the sun begins to set on the horizon, the Haleo luau begins. Prior to the show, guests receive a shell-lei greeting, and have the opportunity to meet the dancers, musicians and entertainers to talk story. An abundance of local cuisine reflect the bounty of Hawaii Island. Appetizers and salads range from island-fresh fruit, Waimea greens and Hawaiian purple potato salad to poi, lomi-lomi salmon, fernshoot salad, and Hawaiian ahi poke with onions and red ogo. For entrées, guests will enjoy island-style kalua pork, lemon verbena salted island fish, chicken and long rice, taro rolls and pineapple-soy glazed beef. Desserts are decidedly Hawaiian, whether the papaya brulee, pineapple upside-down cake, Kona coffee chocolate cake or traditional haupia pudding.
