4 ONO-LICIOUS | OCTOBER 7, 2016 A la Carte Fumi’s Kitchen Serves Daily Lunch Specials Lunchtime is “kau kau” time at Fumi’s Kitchen, where lunch specials are served daily from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. (closed Tuesdays) at this beautiful air-conditioned restaurant located behind Lava Java in Ali‘i Sunset Plaza. Check out the Lunch Bowl Specials featuring Chicken Yakitori ($7.75), Beef Teriyaki ($8.75) and Ango/Unagi ($10.75). All bowls come with rice, miso soup and picked vegetables and are available for takeout. There’s also the tasty BBQ beef teriyaki, yakitori and teriyaki vegetable sticks for under $4. Owner/Chef Ronnie Ow has branched out from his family’s legendary Teshima’s Restaurant in upcountry Kona to offer downtown customers some favorite recipes from the Teshima’s menu, along with Asian-fusion cuisine that combines Japanese and Korean influences. Among the diverse dishes include the shrimp, pork or beef tempura combo trays, bento boxes, fish burgers and Kalbi ribeye. Rounding out the Korean menu are cucumber kim chee and Korean spicy beef stew, a traditional comfort food of South Korea. Popular among Fumi’s patrons are the panko-crusted pork chops, hamburger steak, grilled ahi, and noodle dishes. If you’re in the mood for a regular sandwich for lunch, Fumi’s Kitchen serves BLTs, cheeseburgers, teri beef deluxe burgers and more, accompanied by choice of tossed salad, potato/mac salad or French fries. However, we ended up eating lunch there and decided to splurge again for dinner. We found CanoeHouse on Open Table. It is kind of funny that we had not heard anything about it before. We had already eaten at ‘ULU, Napua and Brown’s Beach House, so we were all (6 of us) surprised that CanoeHouse turned out to be our favorite. Every bite was delicious. Our waiter was fabulous, and the setting is just gorgeous. Yes, it is expensive, but it is what it is. It is fine dining in a beautiful place. CanoeHouse will be our first dinner on our next trip! Mary M. Mount Pleasant, SC Bongo Ben’s We stayed at the resort across the street for 9 days. I think we eat breakfast their 7 or the 9 days. The biscuits and gravy were fantastic! For Hawaii $7.95 was a deal! Service was great and the place was clean. We enjoyed sitting on the front table that over looks the ocean. My wife tried a number of different things on the menu and enjoyed them all. They have $2.50 draft beer all day but never made it back into to enjoy from or day trips but no place had a better price.
