Sharing dishes makes it fun to explore the many generously sized choices on the Sansei menu. Ohana-style dining is the norm at Sansei, where servers bring extra bowls and plates to your table so that each entrée can be portioned to share with everyone in your party. Speaking of parties, Sansei Waikoloa features a private dining room, along with a beautifully ornate cocktail bar where one can enjoy signature drinks as well as a premier selection of sake. Island cocktails include the Hawaiian Shave Ice with Stoli Strawberry, crème de banana, grenadine and pineapple, as well as the Kahanamoku Cooler mixed with Malibu rum, peach Schnapps, Blue Curacao and pineapple juice. There’s also karaoke in the evenings, making Sansei a great destination for nightlife at Waikoloa Beach Resort. Launched by acclaimed Hawaii chef and thirdgeneration Japanese American D.K. Kodoma, Sansei blends the culinary traditions of Japan with contemporary interpretations of Asian-fusion cuisine. According to D.K., the word Sansei means “third generation” in Japanese. Sansei Waikoloa is one of four locations in the state of Hawaii. The first Sansei opened in 1996 on Maui, followed by another location on Maui, and one on Oahu, in Waikiki. There is also a new Sansei location in Seattle that opened last year. Also located on Oahu, D.K. Steakhouse and Vino restaurants round out the group’s portfolio of restaurants. ■ CONTINUED FROM PAGE 1A Visit these fine establishments Sansei Seafood Bar and Grill 866-6286 Queens’ MarketPlace, 201 Waikoloa Beach Drive, Suite 801, Sam Choy’s 334-3434 78-6831 Alii Drive, Kailua-Kona Rays on the Bay 930-4900 78-128 Ehukai St., Kailua-Kona Romano’s Macaroni Grill 443-5515 Queen’s MarketPlace, 69-201 Waikoloa Beach Drive.
