It recommends a course of action to the Board of Directors, so the Board can make decisions that further the purpose and objectives of the chamber. GAC initiatives have included a Chamber of Commerce HAWAII listening session with COCH President and CEO Sherry Menor-McNamara where members were able to share what is important to them and receive updates on the bills that were going through the Legislature at the time. HICC has also developed partnerships with other local chambers of commerce and business organizations to present moderated forums for our members and the community, most recently featuring the mayoral candidates and the County Council candidates from select East Hawaii districts. The chair of the Government Affairs Committee is Chamber President-elect Gordon Takaki. Members and member employees are invited to take a more active role and join this committee which meets on the first Tuesday of the month at 7:15 a.m. at the Sky Garden Restaurant at the ‘Imiloa Astronomy Center. Political Action The Political Action Committee directs lobbying for legislation and support of state and local political candidates that support the chamber’s purpose and objectives. Through financial support for state and local political candidates and issues, this committee furthers the goals and objectives of the chamber. Finance The Finance Committee manages the financial affairs of the chamber so that it remains stable and fiscally sound. The committee ensures that chamber funds are well-spent and are in the members’ best interest. Additionally, the Finance Committee provides the board with information pertaining to the financial condition and submits a report at least once a month to the board for review. The chair of the Finance Committee is Chamber Treasurer Haidee Abe of First Hawaiian Bank. Members and member employees are invited to take a more active role and join this committee which typically meets on the third Monday of the month at 11 a.m. at the Hawaii Innovation Center conference room.
