Hilo Slack Key Festival this weekend Astar-studded lineup of musicians and dancers will entertain this weekend during the Hilo Slack Key Festival from noon-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Kress Building, 174 Kamehameha Ave. in Downtown Hilo. “It’s going to be a great show,” said slack-key recording artist Ben Kaili, the festival’s organizer. “We’ve got a bunch of Hoku award winners and nominees and we’ve also got food and beverage vendors and crafters, so there’s something there for everyone.” Artists include Kaili, Kris Fuchigami, Darlene Ahuna, Diana Aki, Kainani Kahaunaele, Lito Arkangel, Bruddah Waltah Aipolani, Kunia Galdeira, Christy Lassiter, Bulla Kailiwai, Randy Parker, Ricky Alaniz, Nephi Brown and Walter Ward, Rick Jitchaku, Lopaka Kenoi, Bert Naihe, Jennie Kaneshiro and Nando Garcia. Also performing are Hula Halau Ke ‘Olu Makani O Mauna Loa under the direction of kumu hula Meleana Manuel and Halau Na Lei Hiwahiwa ‘O Ku‘ualoha under the direction of kumu hula Sammye Ku‘ualoha Young. Doors open at 10 a.m. and admission is $10 each day, with tickets available at Basically Books, Hilo Ukulele and Guitar and at the door. Ukulele wizard Kris Fuchigami is among the artists performing during this weekend’s Hilo Slack Key Festival from noon-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Kress Building, 174 Kamehameha Ave. in Downtown Hilo.
