Lions return to the griddle Waiakea club hosting 63rd Chuckwagon Breakfast fundraiser The Waiakea Lions Club once again will be cracking eggs and flipping pancakes during its fundraising Chuckwagon Breakfast from 6:30-9:30 a.m. Saturday at Sangha Hall in Hilo. Breakfast includes eggs, Spam, rice, fruit, pancakes, cold cereal and coffee or juice — all for $6. And back by popular demand, there will be a drive-thru breakfast pickup. Lions clubs worldwide celebrated the organization’s centennial this year by serving more than 120 million people, but Lions’ true legacy of service was built in the communities. Each year, the Waiakea Lions Club, with the help of the Waiakea High School Leos and Boy and Cub Scouts from Troop 19, host this fundraising event. All proceeds go back into the community in the form of grants and projects such as high school scholarships, sponsorship of the Waiakea High School Leos and Boy and Cub Scout troops, vision and hearing screening for children, the annual Children’s Christmas Party, projects at the Boys and Girls Club, highway and beach cleanups, and many other worthy causes. A portion of the funds from this year’s breakfast will be presented to three deserving charities, a proud Waiakea Lions tradition. Sangha Hall is located at 424 Kilauea Ave. Tickets can be purchased from any Waiakea Lions member, by calling 313-2245 or at the door. Advance ticket sales are requested to help in the planning.
