Admission is free but donations will be accepted. The chorus is under the direction of Tom McAlexander, accompanied by pianist Walter Greenwood and will feature Amy Horst as soprano soloist. Other featured guests are Herb Mahelona on violin and cello and the Hawaii Academy of Arts and Sciences Children’s Chorus, directed by Lisa Lilja Wells. In addition to the title piece, other seasonal selections will include “Christmas Day” by Gustav Holst, “Fantasia on Christmas Carols” by Ralph Vaughan Williams, “God’s Love Made Visible” by Dave Brubeck, “Candlelight Canon” by Andy Beck, “We Are Lights” by Stephen Schwartz, “Dai Diddle Dai” by David Eddleman, “Hanukkah, the Season of Lights” by Vicki Tucker Courtney, “Hanukkah Wish” by Audrey Snyder and “Hanerot Halalu (Light the Candles)” by Becki Slagle Mayo. It will be a busy holiday season for the Hilo Community Chorus this year, as it will again participate in the annual holiday concert at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, at the University of Hawaii at Hilo Performing Arts Center. And the choral group’s annual “Messiah” singalong is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18, at Christ Lutheran Church, 595 Kapiolani St. in Hilo.
