According to Sue, much of her success
to date has come from having a
positive attitude and from being a longtime
and active resident of Kona. Sue
credits referrals from satisfied clients as
being a prime reason for her success.
Sue moved to West Hawaii 35 years
ago from Queensland’s Sunshine Coast,
Australia, with her husband Hilary and
two young sons. Soon after arriving
in South Kona, she saw the need for
a preschool. And so began a 20-year
career teaching children the importance
of honesty, integrity, trust and respect.
As Sue points out, these same core
values apply very much in the real estate
business. She credits her listening,
negotiating skills, patience and empathy
to her former students, many of whom
have become her clients today.
Sue transitioned from teaching to
full-time real estate in 2003 with the
same enthusiasm to serve the community.
She is of the opinion that when you
love what you do, it becomes your life
and it feels like fun rather than work.
In 2006, Hilary retired as president
of Macfarms of Hawaii to become Sue’s
real estate partner. He specializes in farms
and land while Sue enjoys the challenge
offered by all forms of real estate.
In 2016 Sue launched her own brokerage
firm: Sue Brown Realty & Associates.
Joining Sue and Hilary is their son
Tim and his wife Ally, both of whom
spent their pre-college years in Kona.
Tim has a background in finance while
Ally’s background is in accounting.
Sue’s soft, gentle approach makes
her clients feel comfortable and confident.
Her patience, tenacity, problem
solving skills and willingness to really
listen ensure her client’s goals will be
met. Whether marketing a property for
