In partnership with Kona
Commons & Kona-Kohala
Chamber of Commerce, West
Hawaii Today will bring many
participating employers and
employer resource organizations
to the Big Island’s second
annual Career Expo 2018 at
Kona Commons on Wednesday,
June 6.
These businesses will come
together with the objective of
finding talented individuals
who may potentially join their
team after a day of face-to-face
networking inside the old
Sports Authority building.
“Our goal is to attract quality
applicants, and we encourage
attendees to dress appropriately,
have their resume in hand and
be ready to speak with prospective
employers,” said Jay Higa,
vice president of regional sales
for Oahu Publications, West
Hawaii Today’s parent company.
It’s recommended that those
attending the Career Expo wear
business attire and plan to visit
each booth to learn what kind of
job positions are currently available.
The second rendition of the
Career Expo comes after a successful
inaugural launch last
year. If it’s anything like last
year, it’ll be a great resource for
those who are currently employed,
but may be seeking a career
change.
Your
Dream
Job
is waiting for you
“We think this is another
great opportunity for the west
side to do this together,” said
Tom Hasslinger, editor of West
Hawaii Today, adding that a
highlight of hosting the expo is
showcasing the partnerships the
chamber and newspaper have
in the community.
Last year’s event featured
more than 50 vendors, just as
this year’s will do. Even if you’re
employed, there are opportunities
for advancement as the
expo is also meant for the currently
employed, which many
are — Hawaii’s unemployment
rate dropped to a two-decade
low of only 2.1 percent in
March. But part of the purpose
to show the workforce what else
is out there and give people
ideas to plan about the next
steps in their career.
The unemployment rate is so
low right now that everyone is
looking for talent, which has resulted
in a wage war. Employers
are in the position to pay higher
wages or offer a signing bonus.
Admission is free, with a special
thanks to Hertz Hawaii.
