Lemongrass Bistro

Had the Sambal beef
and it did not disappoint.
Very flavorful and a
good-sized portion. $13
on their lunch menu.
I’d definitely return to
try some of their other
Asian fusion dishes.

Island Gourmet
Markets
I mean, grocery stores
are grocery stores,
right? Not necessarily,
especially when in
resort country. Prices
were reasonable here,
and considering you’re
surrounded by tons
and tons and tons of
hotels and condos, that’s
unheard of! My friends
ordered from the hot
bar area one night and
the food was delicious.
The prepared sushi is
awesome and fresh.
They have a lot of local
items for purchase at
very reasonable prices,
and they have local
food to pick up as well.
While I did see a lot
of visitors here, I also
talked to some locals
who frequent IGM as
their own grocery stores.
That’s the sign of a good
place. The staff was
super friendly and made
great recommendations
on things to pick up.
I’m very happy to have
become a regular
here on my visit. Jeanne P.

Roy’s Waikoloa
Bar & Grill
Used the website to
reserve a table for my
birthday. I was greeted
by the host and waiter
with a Happy Birthday.
Very nice so far....I also
have a allergy to peppers
and the waiter was very
good on working with me
and the kitchen staff to
ensure I had a meal that
wouldn’t send me to the
hospital but something
I also enjoyed. At the
end Roy’s brought out
a dessert as a birthday
surprise. Great night
with great service.

Pancho crusted

Love to come here

enjoy the food, drinks

Privateer’s Cove
Restaurant
This is not a restaurant
for the meek of heart or
shy people or if you are
in any way pretentious. If
you want to dine at a place
like the French Laundry,
fly to Napa. If you want
to be greeted like family
and eat good food at very
reasonable prices, come
on down!! My family felt
as though the owner and
staff wanted us there
which is a rarity in the
restaurant business. Most
places want you there to
pay the bills and make
a living. At Privateer’s
Cove you feel like they
want you to be part of the
experience. This sets it
apart from 99 percent of
other establishments.
The food is solid and
the service is excellent.
If you want fancy twirled
vegetables that look like
the chef took classes in
origami go elsewhere.
Don’t expect foo foo
flowers put on your plate
to mask the fact that
there isn’t much food
there. You get real good
food that tastes real. I
had the duck, wife had
seafood cannelloni along
with our Italian exchange
student with my daughter
having the steak. All
tasted superb. Appetizers
were special as well.
Don’t get me started
about dessert. Creme
brûlée was delicious but
the killer was the mud
pie. Damn that is some
good eating. I know
I’m going to have that
mud pie tomorrow.
The kicker was after we
left and the owner ran out
to say goodbye to me and
give me a bear hug. It felt
genuine and is something
I will remember for years
to come. Bottom line, go
there, go often, except
if I’m in town so as to
deny me a reservation.
One of the best dining
experiences I’ve ever had.

Rays on the Bay
I’ve yet to find an item
on their menu that I
don’t like. My wife and
I ate there four times
during our stay. I highly
recommend the NY
steak, chopped salad,
and Da Burger. The
service was great and
the setting is beautiful!

Nice theater,
comfortable seats. The

It is fun to eat dinner

My husband ordered
blueberry pancakes and
I ordered the classic
breakfast and both were
tasty! His pancakes were
delicious! So flavorful
and soft. Shoutout
to our friendly waiter.
Blonde, long hair from

his tag said something
like Running Bear. Thank
you for great service!!

Charley’s Thai
Cuisine
Genuine Thai food
like from Thailand.
Without a ton of sugar
and added ingredients.
We had the pad kee
mau and everything
tasted great and full of
explosive tastes. I would
definitely come back
here again. The place is
actually very small but
the service is fast and
quick. The wait staff are
young but seem to know
what they are doing.
Coming back for sure.

Steak dinners
in West Hawaii
BY KAREN ANDERSON
SPECIAL TO WEST HAWAII TODAY
There’s nothing like sinking your teeth into a tender,
juicy, flavorful steak — be it New York prime,
filet mignon, ribeye or prime rib, to name a few.
Luckily for steak lovers, there are plenty of places in
West Hawaii to savor a great steak dinner.
In the heart of Kailua Village, Bongo Ben’s Island
Café serves up a variety of steak dinners nightly
including New York strip steak at sunset. Bongo
Ben’s top sirloin steak showcases 100 percent CAB
steak topped with grilled mushrooms and onions
and served with sautéed vegetables, garlic toast and
a dinner side, all for $22.95. Prime Rib Night on
Sundays is not to be missed.
Also located on Alii Drive, Foster’s Kitchen features
a freshly cut 12-oz grass-fed ribeye steak coated
in garlic spice and Kona Coffee rub.
At Sansei Seafood, Steak & Sushi Restaurant, the
22-ounce, 20-day-aged bone-in ribeye steak is seared
to order in a 1,800-degree broiler and served with
garlic mashed potatoes and sautéed local vegetables.
The chili-porcini mushroom-crusted beef tenderloin
is also a sure bet.
Another dining destination in Waikoloa Beach
Resort, A-Bay’s Island Grill, serves peppercorn-crusted
New York steak, as well as blackened ribeye steak
with roasted hamakua mushrooms. Both dishes are
accompanied by truffle mashed potatoes. Also located
at the Kings’ Shops, Roy’s Waikoloa Bar & Grill
serves Big Island grass-fed Kulana filet mignon, as
well as herb-grilled Hawaii Ranchers natural strip
steak.
