Apio headlining nights of clean comedy Stand-up comedian Kermet Apio draws from his own life experiences to make audiences laugh. He’s been doing so for close to 30 years. So far, his tales of parenting his two children, 14 and 11, and stories about marriage have gone over OK with the wife and kids, but Apio says it’s just a matter of time before he says the wrong thing and “hears about it.” Apio will share his brand of humor at 9 p.m. today at the Hilo Town Tavern and 8 p.m. Friday at My Bar Kona, joined by Hilo’s own up-and-coming comedians Noah Linsk and Bryan Rupp, and returning comedians Jose Dynamite and Anthony Silano. Both shows will be hosted by Simon Kaufman. “Kermet Apio brings a different style of humor to every show he performs,” explains tour promoter and comedic colleague Dynamite. “He has a mixture of mainland and local humor that’s relatable to people of all ages. His observational humor is clever and well-written. Although we’ll be performing inside a bar, the entire show will be clean humor. No swearing and no profanity.” Though Apio is an Oahu native, he’s been living in Seattle since college. His love of comedy began in 1989 during an open mic night in Seattle. “I was always a big fan of comedy, and after college I was working at United Airlines,” Apio recalls. “There was a guy on another ship who did open mics and he took me to watch a couple of times.
