Apilado RS-68070 895-6389 16 West Hawaii Real Estate | July 6, 2016 Putman D. Clark, founder of Clark Realty Corporation, Hawaii Island’s largest residential real estate brokerage, died June 27 at The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu. Known to family, friends and associates as “Putty,” Clark was born in Hawaii on June 8, 1947. He graduated from Hawaii Preparatory Academy in Waimea and later earned his MBA at New York University after receiving a bachelor’s degree in economics from Middlebury College. His early real estate career included working as a financial analyst and strategic planner for C. Brewer & Company Ltd. before he joined the Honolulu-based real estate brokerage Bradley Properties in 1980. In 1986, Putty became a partner at Bradley Properties. In late 1994, he purchased the firm’s Big Island operations and founded Clark Realty Corporation in Kailua-Kona in January 1995. Since 1995, Clark Realty Corporation has participated in nearly 18,000 transactions with a sales volume of over $5.4 billion and was named one of Hawaii’s 50 fastest growing companies by Pacific Business News in 2015. Professionally, Clark leaves an enduring legacy built on two guiding principles that he tirelessly worked to model for his colleagues: achieving excellence through market knowledge and upholding standards of integrity in all business dealings. “We will strive to continue to build on this legacy,” said Frank Goodale, who was named president of Clark Realty in October 2015. “The real estate community has lost a respected leader. Putty leaves behind a strong ohana here at Clark and he led by example with a work ethic that has helped define a generation of real estate practice in our local market. We will miss Putty greatly.” During his life, Clark emphasized philanthropic giving and community service and encouraged Clark Realty agents and staff to do the same. The Clark Realty Corporation Fund, which was founded in 2005, has raised over $175,000 to support Big Island organizations nominated annually by Clark agents and staff. Clark also served in leadership positions with a number of local groups including Family Support Services and the YMCA and on the board at Hawaii Preparatory Academy. Putty was also a devoted father and grandfather and is survived by his daughters Katie, Amanda and Jenna and his granddaughter, Irie. Information about a celebration of life will be forthcoming.
