Habaneros
Mexican Grill
The restaurant has
modern decor, with a
Mexican and Island twist. It’s
comfortable and relaxing.
We came for nachos, but
decided to have more. My
husband ordered mole,
his favorite. He’s serious
about his mole sauce, spicy
and flavorful, not sweet or
sour. This mole he ranks as
his third favorite, which is
actually quite high on his
list of dozens of places. I did
have the nachos and they
were a decent portion for
a single person. Overall, a
good deal and an enjoyable
meal. Our server was
awesome, giving us some
suggestions for places
to see. Great dinner.

Starbucks at
Queens’ MarketPlace
This location is busy as it
sits in the heart of Waikoloa
- a beautiful oasis about
20 miles from the Kona
airport. Lines are usually
long but move quickly.
Servers are friendly & the
drinks are - well, Starbucks!

A-Bay’s Island Grill
at Kings’ Shops
In the Kings’ Shops,
there is small outdoor,
sports bar restaurant that
has recently had several
changes in ownership so
we hadn’t eaten at the
current one. However on
the recommendation of
several friends we tried it
and found amazing food and
service, and now it is one
of our top favorites in the
Waikoloa area. They have
a good and varied menu.
I tried their Seafood A La
Meuniere featuring swordfish
served on top of spinach
and mashed potatoes with
an excellent wine sauce, the
best fish meal I have had
this year. Others tried the
fish tacos, which also were
excellent and contained a
large amount of fish. The
staff was very friendly and
the service outstanding.

Holua Poolside Bar &
Lounge at Sheraton
Kona Resort
I have been down to the
pool bar and have only had
a fun time. Not only is the
pool great for my kids, but,
there is so much more.
At night, grab a drink and
go to the point and watch
mantas. My favorite food
has to be the tacos and
the veggie bowl. Nice taste
and presentation. Melanie
did a great job with our big
group. Jim was also very
friendly and good at making
us drinks. Will return soon!

Hawaiian Fish &
Chips at Queens’
MarketPlace
Despite being located in
a food court at the Queens’
MarketPlace, the menu
is varied and the food
was quite good. I got the
tempura mahi mahi, but
there are tons of deliciouslooking
options. My friends
got a blackened fish salad
and some type of seafood
noodle dish. The portions
are large and none of us
could clean our plates.

The food here is excellent.
Service great. We were
able to watch the luau
performance next door
and listen to the crashing
waves! Fantastic venue
to take your partner!

Sam Choy’s Kai Lanai
This is a place you must
try when in Kona. We went
for happy hour and the
appetizers and drinks were
excellent. The view is the
best! We went for dinner
and had macadamiacrusted
mahi mahi, so
good. Seafood trio also
delicious. The staff is great.

Bongo Ben’s
Island Café
While on the Big Island
in Kona, my husband and I
ate here several times. The
tropical fruit waffle was
divine. The teriyaki chicken
sandwich was delicious.
And you can sit anywhere
and see the ocean.

Paradise Pizza &
Grill at Queens’
MarketPlace
This is in Queens’
MarketPlace’s food court
with a very large menu and
seemed to practically serve
as much food as most of the
other smaller units together.
I had shrimp marinara, while
my wife tried the shrimp
alfredo. We tried each other’s
choice and agreed it was
real good. No wonder they
seem to have the majority
of the business in the court.

The Koa Table at
Kings’ Shops
My fiancé and I stumbled
upon this place the first
night we were in town and
after the first visit we had to
go back for a second time
before we left the island
because the food and drinks
were incredible. We both
absolutely loved the fried
saimin and the Chinese-style
pork belly as our entrees.
We tried the crab Mac and
cheese and that was pretty
good, could have been
cheesier, but overall good.
The second time we tried the
fried green beans with the
aioli for our appetizer and we
fought over the sauce, it was
so tasty. The cheesecake
was light and airy and had
an incredible honey crust
and the lava cake was rich
and decadent with vanilla
ice cream. As for drinks
my fiancé loved the ginger
Manhattan and I favored
the Mojito and Pau mule. As
for service it couldn’t have
been better! The first night
we had Mallory and she
was attentive and helpful.
The second time both the
hostess and the girl floating
around filling waters made
our night. They were both
so kind and made us feel
at home. Turns out the
restaurant is a real family
affair with cousins and aunts
working together which only
adds to its charm. If you’re
in Waikoloa do yourself a
favor and visit the Koa Table
and you won’t regret it.

Executive chef Sheldon Meza creates
all the delicious desserts at Foster’s
Kitchen, where “scratch-made” is the
operative word at this oceanfront Alli
Drive restaurant in Kailua-Kona.
It makes sense that Chef Meza’s
desserts are standouts. In addition to
his culinary prowess in creating the
entrées and appetizers on the menu, he
is also an outstanding pastry chef who
worked at the famed Sir Francis Drake
Hotel in San Francisco.
Made fresh from scratch, the lilikoi
cheesecake features swirls of lilikoi
glaze along with sweetened slices of
fresh strawberries on the side. Sheldon’s
delicious strawberry puff pastry rivals
any resort restaurant’s dessert offerings,
while his own Foster’s Lava Cake
oozes with dark and semi-sweet chocolate.
Another taste treat, the Monkey
Bread, unveils buttery morsels covered
in cinnamon and sugar. A fun sunset
libation, the White Road dessert cocktail,
highlights local, cold-pressed Kona
coffee.
Chef Meza’s skills as a pastry chef
are also evident on the appetizer
menu, where his Shrimp & Crab Pesto
Lollipops showcase perfectly prepared
puff pastry brushed with pesto butter
and sprinkled with parmesan.
