Honu Bar presents artisan menu and weekend
entertainment at Mauna Lani Bay Hotel & Bungalows
BY KAREN ANDERSON
SPECIAL TO WEST
Open nightly from 5
p.m. to 10 p.m., the Honu
Bar at Mauna Lani Bay
Hotel & Bungalows is the
perfect spot for enjoying
cocktails, appetizers, light
dinners, after-dinner libations
and desserts.
With floor-to- ceiling
windows that unveil
tropical garden views, the
venue’s beautiful interiors
showcase custom hardwood
floors, stylish island
furnishings and an enormous
cocktail bar where
tropical libations are
mixed and served. Above
the bar, an original fresco
depicts the Big Island’s
volcanic landscapes as
seen from the vantage of
the resort.
Sous Chef Bryce Velez
has created a delicious
menu for patrons of the
Honu Bar. Light selections
and appetizers are
sized for sharing, or can
be combined to create
an entire meal of eclectic
dishes. Among the specialties
are sushi, poke,
barbecue pork pizza, lemongrass
chicken wings,
island-fresh salads and
more.
Similar to sliders, the
bao buns are stuffed
with everything from
local-style kalua pork
to Asian slaw or spiced
grilled catch of the day.
The ahi poke nachos feature
a twist on traditional
poke with the addition of
wonton chips. Prepared
with gochujang mayo,
the crispy Korean-style
calamari gets its savory
flavor from the addition
of toasted sesame-garlic
