SPECIAL TO WEST HAWAII TODAY
Voted best breakfast year
after year by readers of West
Hawaii Today, Bongo Ben’s
Island Café serves excellent,
early morning ono grindz every
day beginning at 6:30 a.m.
The array of choices runs the
gamut from steak Benedict,
breakfast sashimi, grilled fresh
catch and huevos rancheros
to breakfast burritos, chorizo
scrambles, country fried steak
with white country gravy, or
any number of delicious styles
of omelets loaded with islandfresh
ingredients.
Generously portioned,
breakfast offerings at Bongo
Ben’s are also affordably priced.
Prepared in a lightly grilled
flour tortilla, the breakfast burrito
($7.95), for example, brims
with scrambled eggs, ham,
cheese and onions, with salsa
on the side. A local favorite,
the loco moco ($13.50) comes
complete with two eggs any
style served with a flamed
broiled beef patty, homemade
brown gravy and white rice,
plus bread, toast or biscuit.
If you’re craving something
sweet for breakfast, you’re in for
a treat. Bongo Ben’s serves tasty
tropical fruit waffles, homemade
cinnamon swirl French
toast, and heaping stacks of
banana nut pancakes. The cinnamon
swirl is one of the most
popular items on Bongo Ben’s
breakfast menu.
Breakfast smoothies can be
made with or without ice cream.
Tropical smoothie ingredients
include passion fruit, mango,
banana and coconut. Bongo
Ben’s also serves 100-percent
Kona coffee brewed to order.
Bongo Ben’s Island Café serves a wide variety of favorite foods with an island flair. KAREN

Best Thai I’ve ever
had, and at a GREAT
price, especially for
Hawaii! We had the
Calamari appetizer,
which was great, then
Pad Thai and Red Curry
Chicken for dinner,
SOOOOO GOOD! Going
back one more time
before we head home.
Don’t miss this spot!

This store is located in
the Queens MarketPlace
shops in Waikoloa Beach
Resort. Good selection
of reasonably priced
food and dry goods,
excellent selection of deli
meals, lots of souvenirs
and a great area for
alcoholic beverages as
well. The staff are very
friendly and helpful.

Stopped in for lunch
and had an absolute
fantastic time. The gals
in there are so cheerful
and polite. The food was
great and very tasty. The
view from up top is great
as you can see for miles.
Lunch was fantastic,
our friends have said
that dinner is equally
as good. Go and
enjoy.... recommend.

Foster’s Kitchen
Ate at the bar here with
a friend on a weeknight.
The service was great,
very friendly and helpful
with making some drinks
choices. I had the ahi
appetizer and it was
awesome!! I didn’t have
one of their handmade
cocktails but their beer
selection was very good.
I was able to find several
yummy selections.
The restaurant has a
nice open feel and was
very comfortable. I will
definitely be back!

Roy’s Waikoloa
Bar & Grill
We’ve lived on the
Kona Coast for two years
and we still have many
restaurants to evaluate.
With friends visiting
from the mainland we
decided to give Roy’s a
try for dinner and were
not disappointed, to say
the least. Our server,
Courtney, had “service
with a smile” down pat.
She was attentive but not
overbearing and made
many great suggestions
for first-timers. I had
scoped out the online
menu and knew exactly
what I wanted: the fish
trio. Roy’s’ menu changes
daily, so don’t expect
to find exactly what’s
online. In my case, one
of the fish on the trio
had been changed to
something I’d never had
before and it was the
highlight of this excellent
dish. My friend had an
individual serving of the
same fish and loved it
as well. His wife had the
Aloha Meatloaf, which
looks like two large filet
mignons, is not like any
meatloaf you’ve ever
seen, and is served with
a delicious mushroom
sauce. My wife, a light
eater who abhors fish,
had pot stickers that
she said were the best
she’d ever had. I snuck a
bite of one and agreed.
A bottle of Rombauer
Chardonnay and two
desserts to split and
we were a happy and
satisfied table — for
less than $200 per
couple including wine.
During the meal we were
pleased to meet Roy’s
Waikoloa GM, Arnie, who
stopped by the table to
assure everything was
up to our standards.
Classy. We have added
this restaurant to the
top of our list of finedining
favorites and plan
to return again soon.

Haleo Luau
at Sheraton
Kona Resort
The Haleo Luau is an
amazing, wonderful,
educational evening.
Our night started,
after checking in, with
a beautiful sunset.
Then the hostess and
M.C., Aunty Tutu, took
over. One of the most
delightful women ever.
Everyone is a part of her
Ohana, or family, and
that is the way that she
makes you feel. The food
was amazing, especially
the kalua pork and the
Hawaiian sweet potato
salad. There is hula and
songs while you are
eating, then the show
starts. The dancers, both
male and female, are
very talented. Aunty Tutu
also weaves Hawaiian
history into the show so
that you are educated
about the Hawaiian
people and traditions.
The ending was a fire
knife dancer that was
amazing. All in all, a very
wonderful evening.

Royal Thai Café
One of our favorite
places to go to when
we visit the Big Island.
Food is delicious and
service is fast and
friendly. We have been
here for lunch and dinner
a couple of times. Love
the fried spring rolls and
mint noodles. Prices
are very reasonable
compared to the hotel
food at the Sheraton
where we are staying.
