Grab a bite at any number of excellent restaurants, cafés, delis and eateries, then head to the Coronation Pavilion at center court to watch everything from live hula and Hawaiian music to Movies Under the Stars. The month of September brings a variety of special events to the center. On Saturday, Sept. 9, Queens’ MarketPlace and Na Makua Designs will present Hawaii Fest, a day of unique art and handcrafts, Hawaiian music and fun from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Live entertainment will be featured throughout the day at two separate stages, with performances by Hawaiian artists Kainani Kahaunaele, Darlene Ahuna, John Keawe and Lito Arkangel, plus hula halau from Hawaii Island. September’s lineup of events also includes a free concert by Hoku Pa‘a Trio on Sept. 16 at the Coronation Pavilion. There’s also Movies Under the Stars on Saturday, Sept. 23, when a free movie presentation of “Pete’s Dragon” will be shown at dusk at the Coronation Pavilion. Before, during or after the shows, families can find lots of affordable dining options inside the center’s Ono Food Court. Fresh-island fish is served up at Hawaiian Fish N Chips, while Paradise Pizza offers an array of pizza in various sizes. For quick bites, there’s Dairy Queen/Orange Julius, Subway, and Marble Slab Creamery.
