Your Foodie Guide t to great eating in West Hawaii ONO-LICIOUS! June 23, 2017 Daiichi Ramen exceeds expectations after successful grand opening If you haven’t experienced Daiichi Ramen yet, you’re in for a treat. Not only does the newly opened eatery at Kona Commons serve first-rate ramen and noodle dishes, the contemporary interior design, friendly service and classy tableware make for a thoroughly enjoyable dining experience for patrons of all ages. Opened this April at Kona Commons on Makala Boulevard in Kailua-Kona, Daiichi Ramen is the sixth location for the Oahu-based, family-owned restaurant. Homemade sauces and broths are the key to the many delicious, savory dishes featuring top-quality noodles from Sun Noodles, the premier Japanese noodle company on Oahu. Broth simmers overnight for at least 12 hours, which helps to bring out the rich, natural flavor that enhances the dishes. For vegetarians, miso broth is available. Everything on the menu is cooked to order. From ramen/udon bowls to cold noodle entrees, salads, soups and gyozas, the offerings at Daiichi Ramen showcase farm-fresh ingredients and island-sourced products. One of the most popular items on the menu is the Tan Tan Ramen (or Udon), featuring just the right amount of spicy. The Chicken or Shrimp Katsu includes crispy strips of tempura accompanied by a big bowl of Curry Ramen or Udon. The Mochiko Chicken Curry on Rice is served with soup and salad. Special combos featuring ramen, fried rice and gyoza are also bestsellers. Daiichi Ramen occupies the former Taco del Mar location at Kona Commons near Ultimate Burger. Inside, the renovated space showcases an upscale setting featuring granite tabletops, wood-paneled walls, intimate lighting, barstool seating and a “sushi bar” style counter that provides seating for 10 people.
